When Lily awoke the next morning, she felt sure that the last day had been a dream, sure that she would open her eyes and see her wall, golden in the sunlight, and her owl, Ollie, hooting happily at her. She even heard the barn owl hoot.

"All right! I'm up." she mumbled sleepily, but then she heard a snore, much too close to be James.

Lily's eyes flew open and she lept out of her bed like a jack-in-the-box. She glanced around. Lily could see that all the other girls were still asleep, Roxanne's long, Weasley hair draped over her cover. She creped down the stairs, her footsteps muffled by her purple pygmy puff slippers, so careful not to wake anyone. She went to her favorite chair by the fire, where the fire was nothing but a few glowing embers, and took out her timetable. Charms, History of Magic, double Potions, lunch, then, finally, Transfiguration. Lily looked at the clock and saw the time was 5:30! Lessons start at 8:30! She thought about going back to sleep but, judging from her racing heart, she was way too exited. Or maybe it was something else that her subconcious mind had noticed that made her heart race. As Lily leaned forwards to grab a book, she heard someone (or something!) move. Close by. Making no sudden movements, she reached into her pocket and withdrew her wand. She tried to remember the handy little spell her dad taught her.

"Lumos." she whispered.

Lily's wand tip ignited, causing someone to gasp and fall backwards into a table. Lily dropped her wand in shock and rushed to help the fallen kid. She could tell it was a guy from the gasp, but only a young one. She ripped open the curtains and spub to see Scorpius laying on the floor, massaging his head. Lily's heart was racing like she had run a marathon, but she tried not to show it.

"What are you doing, spying on me?" she said, trying to sound angry but still sounding a little breathless.

Scorpius stood up and faced her and she was shocked to see tears glittering on his blochy face. He shoved something into her hand and collapesed into a near by chair, head in hands, crying silently. Lily looked down at her hand and saw a letter. She was astonished at what she read.

Scorpius,

Having recieved word from both Christopher and Beatrice, the fact that you were not sorted into Slytherin, but into the Mudblood-lover's house, has recently come to light. After a firm discussion with your Mother, we have come to the only decision we see right to fulfill. Ftom this day forth, you are no longer a Malfoy, and we do not see any reason to call you our son. What you do from this point forth is none of our concern, so please do not find time to bother us with your insignificant problems during your school years. On the matter of holidays, you will have to find someone else to be a burdon to. Please make no attemps to stay in contact with what used to be your family.

Yours sincerely,

The Malfoys.

P.s. From now on you will take your Mothers family name, Maldova.

Lily looked at Scorpius, who still had his blonde head buried in his hand. She couldn't think of anyway of cheering him up, so she knelt by his side and started stroking his silky hair, whilst something nagged at the back of her head. After a minute, Scorpius lifted his head and Lily pulled her had back.

"I'm so sorry." she whispered.

"It's not your fault." he answered.

He stood up suddenly and Lily was suprised at how tall he was. She had only really seen him sitting down, but he was tall enough to rival Hugo's height!

"I'd better get back to my dorm. Thanks, umm-"

"Lily, Lily Potter." she supplied and held out her hand.

"Scorpius Malf - I mean, Maldova." he said, but didn't grasp her hand.

She let it fall back to her side and an awkward silence followed, broken when Scorpius said by and made his way back to the boys dorms. As Lily watched Scorpius dissappear up the marble stairs, the conversation that she had overheard between Albus and her dad, Harry; over a year ago, came to the forefront of her mind.

1 YEAR PREVIOUSLY (Lily's POV)

Albus bent over to tie his shoelaces and fell behind with dad. I carried on waving at James, jelous that I had to wait 2 more years before I could go to Hogwarts. Me and mum had stopped just in front of Dad and Albus, so I could hear every word of there whispered conversation.

"What if I am in Slytherin?" I heard Albus whisper, and I listened closely. I was afraid of this to.

"Albus Severus. You were named after two headmasters of Hogwarts." Que jelousy. "One of them was a Slytherin, and was probably the baravest man I ever knew." Helpful, NOT!

"But just say-"

"Then Slytherin house will have ganed an excellent student, won't it?" Again, Helpful. "It doesn't matter to us, Al. But if it matters to you, you'll be able to choose Gryffindor over Slytherin. The sorting hat takes your choice into account." FINALLY!

"Really?"

"It did for me."

END FLASHBACK

The sorting hat takes your choice into account! If Scorpius really wanted to be sorted into Slytherin, he could have chosen it. Well, unless he had some outstanding Gryffindor trait, which Lily didn't think was possible. She looked at the clock and decided that, after the excitement of the morning, she should try to get some sleep before her first official day of Hogwarts.
