"Maybe she loved mysteries so much she became one"
The smell of roses filled my nose as I walked through my front door, my footsteps were heavy against the creeky, wooden floorboards. Each step making the house groan in protest.
I was sleepy, with a whole night walking aimlessly around the streets. My instincts pulling me in random directions to find myself at an odd door or a dark and mysterious alleyway. I looked at my digital watch, unable to see the numbers I groped around the wall for a light switch.
I flicked the white switch upwards and the room illuminated with a yellow dim glow. I watched the bulb flicker for a minute before sitting on the old couch, wrapping myself up in an old blanket and resting my head on a white pillow. I fell asleep dreaming of the impossible.
My eyes slowly parted. The light from the morning sunrise making the room glow as the early morning eyes view a parting of the way and darkness bows to light. The bulb flickering above me made me squint at the thin curtains- doing nothing to hold the morning sun out.
Grunting with the effort I swung my legs out from under the blanket, the cold nibbling at my legs.
I glanced around the living room I now called my bedroom. My gaze fell on a mirror, two bright green eyes stared back at me. My eyes raked over my body. My black jacket was a contrast to the White, dirty T-shirt underneath it, but a blend with the black jeans and black converse. My 17 year old body was curvy with wide hips and big eyes.
My messy blonde hair was tugged into a tight side plait after a small wrestle match with the hairbrush. I padded over the carpet and looked out onto the river, the city was already awake with cars moving quickly around corners and people rushing to work.
November was more of a pearly-grey month, I thought. The changeling between warm crimson October and cold white December. The month when the leaves start to fall in slow drifting swirls and the the time when the trees show off their twisted shapes underneath.
It was a time when the earth imperceptibly wakes and shows off her bare limbs and displays her stubborn unconquerable strength before settling into winter. November was like a mysterious and silent time, a time for secrets.
I turned around and was met with two equally green eyes, twinkling with amusement. I grinned, "morning, Bailey" my sister said, she peered at me through her long thick lashes that hid her bright eyes.
"Morning, Sydney" I replied.
"How are you?" She asked, adjusting her blue skinny jeans and white shirt.
"Why?" I asked, curious.
"Oh, you were just talking in your sleep again." She explained, "it been happening a lot now, maybe you should talk to someone about it-"
"No! I mean...no..." I said suddenly startled, my dreams where something scary, more like nightmares. I heard screams of murders' victims last night, I shivered at the thought.
"Cold?" Sydney asks handing me the last of her warm coffee, I thanked her. Looking up at her she was watching me, her eyes twinkling under the sunlight, "I'm sorry..." She whispered, "it's just, you just...remind me of mum so much"
"Yeah" I replied, "so do you"
"I don't want to loose you like I lost mum and dad, ok?" I nodded, "now get ready for school, fix up the couch, eat breakfast and get the hell outta here" she laughed.
I laughed with her, "now that's the Sydney I know and love"
I walked into Sydney's room, the only room besides the shared bathroom and kitchen that connected with the living room. A tall dark wardrobe stood lonely in the corner, opposite the double bed. It creaked as I opened it and pulled a pair of light, blue shorts for the warm weather today.
