"Ow." I grumble as my slow pace warrants another invisible yank on my watery chains.
"Keep up." Percy barks.
I glare daggers at him. Not that he can see with his back turned to me. I try not to look up for the most part, because if I do, all I can see are stables and sports fields. And then I'll inevitably begin to lower my guard. So I keep my eyes on my feet, slowly trudging along, waiting to be taken to prison.
"We're here." he announces.
I look up, and am shocked by the sight. Prison looks a lot nicer than I had been imagining it to be. In front of me stands a long, low building made from rough seastone with various seashells embedded into the walls,
vaguely resembling the bottom of the ocean floor. A large, gleaming trident with a big, bronze three hangs over the doorway."Welcome to Cabin Three, otherwise known as Poseidon's Cabin, otherwise known as where I live."
He gestures for me to enter and I warily step inside. Immediately, the smell of ocean salt carries throughout the room and I feel relaxed, reminded of trips to the beach and snorkeling with my sister. It's nothing too fancy. The walls appear to be made of abalone. Six bunk beds lined with silk sheets are pressed against the walls. A fountain gurgles in the center of the cabin. For a boy's home, it's surprisingly neat.
"Step inside. Seeing as how you'll probably staying with me for the next few days. A trip to Mount Olympus might have to be arranged to get you sorted out. Maybe then you'll believe me." he says the last sentence with evident annoyance.
I roll my eyes. "First you think I'm the daughter of Greek gods. Now there's Mount Olympus to visit. Really, listen to yourself and wonder. Is it really so illogical for me to think you're all lunatics?"
He glares at me. "Gods you're annoying."
"That's clever," I laugh, "Gods instead of God."
"Hey. You're not the only one who's good with a sharp weapon." he snaps.
I throw myself onto one of the beds. The action seems harmless enough but I'm hoping that my bonds will shatter like ice. No such luck. It does however, make Percy grimace.
"So, when do I get to meet your siblings? Are they all as moody as you?"
"I don't have any. Well, one Cyclops half brother but he doesn't stay here."
I laugh. "Cyclops half brother huh? Any mermaids? I wouldn't put it past the King of the Sea to mate with fish."
He gives me the dirtiest look known to mankind and I wince as the shackles around my wrists and ankles tighten. "Maybe you are a child of Ares. Violent, ill-tempered and hostile? Sounds about right."
I toss my hair back as best as I can without having to use my hands. "It's all part of my charm."
"Since when was charm synonymous to stupidity?"
"Since someone kidnapped me! You're going to turn me into some creepy ritual sacrifice aren't you?"
"No." he mutters. "But I'm thinking about it."
"Just know that if you try, I'll rip your eyes from their sockets and feed them to you."
His lip quirks with amusement. He takes my chain and lengthens it, carrying it into a little bathroom tucked behind the walls and promptly drops it down the sink. Then he turns the tap on and a furious stream of water pours out the nozzle. I watch as he collects it, forming little squares and rectangles over the windows and door.
"I'll be back in an hour or so. Stay put. You couldn't go anywhere if you tried, not before alerting me. So just... don't even think about leaving."
