Awkward encounters

Hope was really the only chance I had to get him. She knew him well and the fact that they lived close to each other helped even more. Especially when I was over, like now.

"you think Mason would like me?" I asked, unsure if I was going to like her response

"Yeah, you're good looking, funny, sweet, and nerdy just like him. You guys are basically a perfect match."

"I hope so." I was still nervous about putting myself out there. Looking for someone new could turn into a disaster all over again, and I had a strange feeling that it would all depend on me.

"Well... You know I may or may not have invited him over today, so , you're gonna have to suck it up and get to know him"

"Hope how can you be so amazing yet so evil at the same time?" She really knew how to set people up and always gave the best dating advice, so it's a shock to me how she is still a single pringle.

I anxiously awaited mason, always checking to see if my hair looked fine, pacing back and forth. I barely knee anything about him yet here I was, already stressing out.

I heard knocks against hope's door and knew immediately that it was him. I followed hope to the door and greeted him. Awkwardly too. My hands were shaky and i was stuttering left and right. It was looking like a disaster already. He was calm at first, but when we reached hope's bedroom he understood why hope had brought him here. Instantly he became just as nervous as I was.

"Let's go outside and ride or something" Hope suggests, remembering we all (but me) have skateboards.

"sure, that sounds fun" i reply, eager to get myself out of this awkward as all hell room.

They grab their boards and head out, but stop once they realize I don't have one.

I hear mason say something from behind me,

"You can ride with me," he points to his long board, there was room for 2, but it would be a tight fit.

I nod my head yes and feel the heat rise to my face, it's quite obvious that I was blushing but his face was bright red too.

I get on the board with him, my hand reaching around his waist to his hip, as he puts his arm around my neck for support. I was in the back, so I had to push us forward, while he was up front, steering us down the road. It was challenging at first, but eventually we got it down.

For the next 3 hours that's all we did, ride around with each other, and being so close to him the entire time was a plus.

When we came back to Hope's house the day continued much like it was in the beginning, however Mason and I were tons less awkward around each other, thanks to our little skateboard session. We randomly got on the topic of music, and I knew he played bass, but I wanted to ask anyway, just to continue the conversation.

"Yeah I do play an instrument I play the bass"

"Oh that's awesome, I do too. I also play like 4 other things but I think bass is the most fun"

"yeah It really is a lot of fun"

At least we had things in common, it meant we could talk to each other hours on end, and that's exactly what we did. I eventually had to go home, but I started texting him as soon as I left Hope's house. I gotta admit, he's a pretty cool guy.

Sadly, it was getting pretty late, although i've enjoyed the time I have spent with him, I'll get chewed out for staying out so late.

"Mason I think it's time I go home, my parents will be angry if I don't get home soon. Kind of protective sometimes" I said, really not wanting to leave. I enjoyed his presence, he was calm and quiet, but I knew that he would probably do some crazy stuff too.

"Oh, well, I'll walk you home"

We walked quietly for the most part, only slight awkward comments. Neither of us could come up with anything at the moment, and it felt weird, but it also wasn't that bad at the same time. Just being around each other was enough, we didn't need to be talking or doing something.

As we reached my house, my face started to heat up and turn red. The thought of giving him a kiss before he left quickly crossed my mind, but I brushed it aside, knowing full well it was too soon.

"alright well, goodnight I guess" He said as he went in for a hug.

"goodnight, Mason"

After we pulled away I went on my tip-toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek, he blushed a lot, and I knew he liked it, so I just waved and ran inside before my awkward could take over and ruin the perfect yet super cringy worthy moment I had created.

Once again, I plopped down on my bed, ignoring all the homework I hadn't done while out with him, and just started to think about the day that had just unraveled before my very eyes. Who knew I would really find someone who isn't repulsed by the Idea of kissing me?
