We drove into the driveway of Jacob's huge house. My mouth dropped as I passed the expensive looking pool, hot tub, party decorations, and even a beautiful blooming garden.
"What the hell is this, I didn't know his parents were like billionaires." Cindy complained.
"They're not, but this is absolutely outstanding. I wonder what their line of work is."
"Probably undercover FBI agents or the presidents assistants or something. Damn."
"Yeah right." I continued driving until I reached a parking area. The trees surrounding the house were all covered in bright lights and something that made them sparkle. We walked out of the car and up to the front door. I rang the doorbell, and waited nervously for someone to answer. It wasn't a long wait until the door opened and there was Jacob. He looked amazing, he wore a blue dress shirt and had his hair slicked back. "Hi Jacob, nice to see you."
"Hello Lindsey." He smiled at me with his perfectly white teeth.
"You can call me Lia, and this is my friend Cindy."
"I'm her plus one." Cindy laughed awkwardly and shook Jacob's hand.
"Nice to meet you, both of you look lovely." We both smiled at him and blushed. "Please come in, you must be freezing out there." Jacob escorted us into the main room. It was huge, the decorations were all perfectly placed and the room was filled with a warm smell. Cindy and I shared glances as we stared at the table covered in deserts and mini sandwiches. "Make yourself at home, the other guests will be coming soon." Jacob started to walk away, when I spoke up.
"Jacob?"
"Yes?"
"Um... well I was wondering..." Cindy looked at me and I took a deep breath, "will your sister be down soon?" Cindy rolled her eyes and nudged my shoulder.
"Yes, she's just finishing getting ready." Jacob walked up the stairs, where his room was I'm guessing. I put my hands over my face and sighed.
"Dammit, I thought I had it. I chickened out at the last minute."
"Lia, I hate to break it to you, but Jacob is happy with his current girlfriend. I don't think he just drop her to be with you. I think you'll just end up making a fool of yourself." Cindy gave me an 'I'm sorry' smile and squeezed my shoulder.
"You're probably right. I should just let it go, there are lots more fish in the sea right?"
"Right."

Once other guests started to join the party, I felt more relaxed. I've realized a little bit more, that it's not very likely for Jacob to fall for me when he is already super happy with Amanda, his current girlfriend. However, I was still feeling down so for the majority of the party I just sat on the couch eating my feelings. Cindy nervously danced with her cousin, I know how romantic, who had only asked her to dance to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. I was starting to feel sick from all of the chocolate that I had eaten, and decided to go out for a breather.
"Cindy!" I called from the leather couch. "Come here!" Cindy happily moved away from her cousin and hopped down on the couch next to her.
"Yes?"
"I need some fresh air, so I'm going to step outside for a little. Sorry to interrupt you from your lover."
"Haha, very funny." She hit my shoulder playfully. "Don't take too long, I can't be left alone or I might just go crazy." Cindy hugged me and miserably ran back over to her cousin,
I stepped outside into the bitterly cold weather. The wind nipped my fingers and nose, and I wrapped my arms around my chest in an effort to stay warm. I wanted to get far away from the loud party, so I walked to the narrow alley behind the house. Now I usually wouldn't go in a creepy alley late at night, but all the chocolate I had eaten wasn't letting me think straight. I leaned against the hard brick wall and sighed, placing my hands over my face. I suddenly heard a short click and quickly looked up. I stared into the mouth of a gun, and behind it a scraggly man with black clothes covering him from head to toe. I couldn't move or speak, I was the deer and he was the hunter.
"Please..." I started.
"Shut up, I am not giving you the right to speak. Now do as I say." I nodded shakily. "If you scream I will shoot. You are going to put your wallet down on the ground in front of you and then you're going to kick it over to me. Is that clear?" I nodded again, not daring to move. "Good." I slowly dropped the small purse I had been holding, and kicked it over to him. He picked it up, without taking his eyes off of me. Relief rushed through me as he started to back up, but the feeling was lost when he lifted the gun up and smashed me in the side of the head with it. Before I knew it I was on the ground, out cold.
