I was fourteen when I was taken.
I couldn’t have known really. All those years I had been in there I had replayed my day over and over again; it was what kept me sane in there, that and my wolf. At the time I had bombarded myself with the what if’s , what if I got up an hour earlier and missed them completely, what if my mom didn’t give my money for the shop and I stayed at home instead.
The sun was shining, a rare occurrence where I lived and when it was sunny, the community was at its best .My brother was at the neighbour’s house playing with their water guns. My dad was mowing the lawn and my mom was talking to my aunt on the phone.
I went downstairs and tugged my t-shirt over my head.”Mom I’m going to the shop, can I have money?” I whispered. She held her hand up to the phone and asked “What are you getting?”I shrugged and put my shoes on she handed me a fiver and I smiled at her. She smiled back for a second and was then thrown back into my aunt’s story once again.
“Bye daddy “I shouted over the lawn mower. He waved at me and I kept on walking on.
I loved where I lived, no matter how much I complained about the weather or being away from kids my age. The road up to the shop was like a tunnel of tress. I smiled up at the bright green colour of the leaves and loving the feel of the sunlight fitting through the gaps, hitting my back.
I turned up Ed Sheerman and got lost in his voice.
I have convinced myself now that I couldn’t have heard that car. The music was blasting and even on a normal day I can be a bit away with the fairies. They had crept up on me, slowing down the car. I was paying no attention, just smiling ahead, humming small bump. The car door opened and I turned around, sensing a presence behind me. I opened my mouth to scream but it was trapped.
The rough hand gagged me and twisted my head to the side.
That was my last day of being normal.
