I sat at a desk just playing with a pencil. It had been a week since Anela left and I have felt different ever since. I was supposed to be writing down ideas for the engagement party but Jessica was so fixed on a blue cocktail party that any of my ideas wouldn't matter anyway. The hours ticked by and I remained in my despaired state. Suddenly Jessica walks in a very short and sparkly blue dress causing me to snap out of my gloom.
"What are you wearing?" I say to Jessica in astonishment.
"The dress that I'll wear for my engagement party!" Jessica gleams.
"Your engagement party?!" I say still astounded.
"Well, our engagement party, anyway, don't you just love the sweetheart neckline and the cut of the skirt? Oh, and the sparkle makes it just wonderful, don't you think?" Jessica waved her hands around the dress as she elaborated. Jessica just loved being the centre of attention and thrived on people showering her with praise and awe. Except I couldn't shower with the praise and awe the she wanted right now, my mind kept drifting towards Anela.
"Are you okay?" Jessica's voice comes through my thoughts.
"Ah, yeah." I say trying to stay out of the clouds while Jessica was here.
"Well?" Jessica returns to her dress waiting for me to say something. When nothing comes out of my mouth she sighs.
Then in a disappointed voice she says, "Is there someone else?" Those four words sparked something in my mind and pictures of Anela came flashing in my head, her laugh echoing through my head. It all dawned on me, all the pieces fitted together and a smile comes to my face.
"Actually there is, I'm sorry I need to go," I try to get up but Jessica pushes me back down into the desk chair.
"That's not what you're supposed to say!" The anger fuming in her words built up. "You're supposed to say 'No, how could you say that! There's you and only you!'"
"I'm sorry but..." again I try to get up but Jessica pushes me right back down.
"No one ever says no to me. Don't know that guys come drooling by the thousand for me, no one rejects me! You have to choose between me," her voice goes soft and milky then hard and stony, "or her. Just don't expect me to take you back when you come crawling back to me, begging for forgiveness," and with that she stands to the side trying to look all pretty and calm as if she expected me to choose her supremely.
But I don't, I calmly head towards the door to leave. I hear Jessica gasp then she yells out to me, "This isn't the last of me, you will hear from my father!" When I leave the room I hear her growl and shout, "DAAAAADDDDDYYYYY!!!!!"
I rush out of the house with one objective on my mind, find Anela.
