My eyelids slowly open, after a while I realise what the strange brown looking animal was. It was a monkey. When was there a monkey on the ceiling of my bedroom? My dad has always banned any kind of art work or posters in my room. Where am I?

I look around to get some clues on where I am. I'm sat in a metal framed bed with a huge dark blue curtain sweeping around my bed. To my left a woman is sat on a uncomfortable looking wooden chair, asleep. I recognise her from somewhere. My mum.

There was a sharp sounding doorbell which awoke my mum. She bent down to her bag yet if it was a doorbell shouldn't she be going to a door? She raised an iPhone from the very bottom of her black handbag and moved her figure across the front, and put it to her ear.

My mum softly said in a whisper "she's still asleep I think".

She then listened to a reply and quickly said "bye, see you later".

My mum looked at me until she realised I was fully awake and waiting to find out what was happening. She rushed over to me and I could hear the tapping on the floor from her heels running towards me.

She was stroking my head however I couldn't feel any hair twisting around her fingers. I reached up to my head to realise there was no hair. My mum sat down next to me which had made me quickly shuffle over to give her a bit of space. She stared into my light blue gazing eyes and said "are you ok?"

I replied, "yeah I'm fine, why won't I be? Where am I?"

My mum sighed with disappointment and calmly spoke "you're in William Luke Hospital and you have been since two days ago, yesterday evening you had surgery to help with Leukaemia". There was a small tear streaming from the corner of her eyes. I was shocked, how could I not remember? I still didn't know what my mums name was.

My mum went running off with the sound of jewels crashing against each other as her Pandora bracelet moved around. I sat there waiting wondering about my life. Ten or so minutes of just endless thoughts a nurse came back in a dark blue dress and small black high heels, my mum was quickly following her behind. I read the name "Lindsey Edwards, children's nurse".

Lindsey got out a clipboard and a pen and said, "hi, Kate I'm Lindsey", in one of the most patronising voices I've ever heard, it was like I was three again. I mumbled back a small squeak of a "Hi". So I've learnt I'm Kate and my nurse is Lindsey. Lindsey began to ask a million questions on what I can remember. I was awful at this, if it was an exam I'd have failed.

After Lindsey had stood looking bored and filling in a piece of paper she spoke to my mum, "I'll take these to Peter, who's our head doctor in the ward. Bye Scarlett and Kate." It all came rushing back to me then, mums name was Scarlett, dads was Jake and my older brother was Marcus. If only I could of taken that 'exam' again.
