Chapter 3
I twisted the doorknob and suddenly I was met by twenty pairs of eyes and blank faces. No smiles. I suddenly didn't know what to do. Should I say hello? Should I smile at these people? Should I introduce myself? I shut the door behind me, and tried to avoid all of the stares I was receiving. This was so uncomfortable me. I absolutely hated being the center of attention.
A woman with jet black hair, tightly pinned in a bun and a very professional pencil skirt and blazer approached me. "Andi Wilson?" she asked
"Yes. Sorry to interrupt the class." I answered.
"No problem. I'm Mrs. Song and I will be your Geometry teacher for the year. Welcome to Gerard High School." she said as she shook my hand. Mrs. Song was a lot more friendlier than she looked. I walked over to her desk, and she handed me a textbook and some papers.
In a rather hushed tone, Mrs. Song said to me, "I was able to look at your previous math scores from you old school. It seems that you really excel in the subject. Today the class is taking a test on some basic geometric material that we have been studying. You can take also just as a practice test, so I can detect areas of difficulty that you may have." she handed me a test and directed me to a seat in the back of the room. "Class, this is our new student, Andi. Please be kind and respectful to her as you do for anyone else." said Mrs. Song.
I scrambled to the back of the classroom and took my seat. I opened the test packet and began to do the problems. Math often helped me clear my mind. It was very relaxing to me.
I finished the test before anyone else, but I waited until other people started handing theirs in because I didn't want to be the first person up. After handing the test in, the bell rang and everyone darted out of the classroom. I was the last one out.
As I walked the crowded halls full of loud students, I carefully studied the map. My next class was English. As I frantically searched for the classroom, my eye caught sight of a familiar blonde head strutting down the hallway. It was Laina.
I ran to her, hoping she could possibly help me. "Laina!" I called. She didn't hear me. As I caught up to her, I realized that she was walking along side of a group of other juniors. Did she seriously already have a whole new group of friends? "Laina!" I said again. This time she heard me. She turned her head and looked at me. "I need help finding my class!" I said.
All of her other "friends" must have noticed me because I heard one of them say, "Look at the little lost freshman!" which had sparked laughter among the group.
"Laina, who is she? Do you know her?" said a tall red-head.
"Don't worry, Grace. She's just my freaky little sister." Laina replied to the girl who's name I'm guessing is Grace. "Go away." Laina whispered to me through a fake smile.
"But-" I began to plead. However Laina and her group just walked away, leaving me to fend for myself in the sea of students. I could already tell this day was off to a bad start.
