Days had gone by, and I had yet to make any friends at this new school. However, I did make an enemy; although I'm really not sure how. Her name is Minnie Walker. Ever since the first day of school when I sat alone at lunch she has been acting really mean around me. I really don't know what her problem is. Whenever I walk by she'll laugh with her group of friends, and it’s pretty obvious that they’re directing it at me.  Why would she do this? The girl doesn’t even know me! But I had more important things to worry about than Minnie Walker and her band of laughing hyenas.

This morning at breakfast, Laina asked my mom, “Can I have a party?”

“What kind of party?” asked my mother.

“You know, just a party…..” Laina replied. She could see out of the corner of her eye my mom’s blank expression. She knew that she would have to make up a better reason than that. “A party to show everyone at school how appreciative I am for them welcoming me into the school like they did.”

I guess that was a pretty good reason because my mom looked at my father, exchanging a glance, and then back at Laina.

“I guess so, if you really want to have party.” Said my mom, “We’ll talk about it later.” Laina ran up to my mom and gave her a hug.

A party? Already? We had only been in school for two weeks, and Laina already knew enough people to have a party? Knowing Laina, this will not be some stupid little party, this would be huge. Anyone who’s anyone would be there. But me? I would be hidden away in my room doing crossword puzzles and watching re-runs of “Pretty Little Liars”.

It was Friday. Only one more day until the weekend, which would mark my official two week anniversary of moving to New Jersey. I sat in my honors geometry class, waiting for the bell to ring, like normal.

“Class,” said Mrs. Song, “I’m handing back your tests that you took last week. As the majority of you will see, I am not pleased with the grades at all. I expect more effort from you guys.”

Mrs. Song handed the tests back, face down. This really made me nervous, even though she had assured me that this test was just a practice test for me considering I had just joined the class. Mrs. Song had reached my desk. When she gave me my test, she didn’t even make eye contact. I slowly started to look through the packet from back to front. So far, I did not see any red marks. The excitement built up inside me and I flipped the whole test over.

100% was all I saw.

However, I was not the only one who had seen my score. After a couple of seconds, I saw my test snatched out off my desk.

“No way!” said the girl who sat in front of me in amazement as she flipped through my test. The girl had shoulder-length strawberry blonde hair and freckles. Because she sat in front of me, I had only seen the back of her head. Others started to look over at her. “You must be some kind of genius! You didn’t even learn this stuff with us! Congrats on the 100!” she said as she handed the packet back to me. The girl said this in a way that was nice, and not nasty at all.

I laughed. “Well, I’ve always liked math.”

“Really? I absolutely hate math! I’m horrible! I don’t even know how I got into this honors class!” said the girl, “Look at this!” she showed me her test. “I got a 80%! Horrible!” The girl and I both laughed.

“That’s not bad!” I said.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw another pair of eyes creeping over at my test. “She really got a 100%?” said none other than Minnie Walker, gossiping to her friends. “I swear, she’s like some alien or something.” That hurt. I’ve never been called an Alien before.

The girl in front of me must have heard Minnie. “What did you get, Minnie? Another 15% test grade? Now that would really be a shame.” The girl said to Minnie with a smile creeping from the sides of her mouth. “You should spend more time studying, not talking about other people right in front of them.” the girl said again.Minnie stared back with a blank face and some other kids started laughing. The bell rang, and Minnie and her crew were out of the classroom faster than lighting.

I looked at the girl. “Thanks” I said.

“No problem.” said the girl, “If no one else is  gonna set Minnie straight, then I’m gonna do it.” We both laughed. “I’m Halley Harrington by the way.”

“I’m Andi Wilson” I said.

Halley and I walked out of geometry together. If things go well, I might have just made my first friend at Gerard High.
