Anya's eyes widen in shock and she could tell from the look on his face he meant what he said. Was what he was protecting enough to kill someone over it?

She didn't need answer to that. It was clear as day that it was. But why? Why would he go that far just to keep his pack hidden?

"You wouldn't dare do that." He just raised an eyebrow at her, asking her without saying anything if she really meant what she said.

She backed up. She wanted to put distance between her and the now frightening man.

The man that stood in front of her now wasn't the one that had flashed her those charming smiles and smirks. He wasn't the man who's laugh filled the air from her smart remarks earlier.

No, this wasn't him. The man who stood in front of her had a seriousness to him that said he would take whatever measures he needed to keep her quiet.

"Look, I won't say anything if that's what you want. I just want to go home to my friend."

"It's not that simple. If I send you back out there I'm putting everything and everyone here at risk. Even if you don't say anything if the right people get their hands on you they will find us."

She stood there in silence as she watched him take off the jacket to his suit and place it on the back of the couch.

He then proceeded to loosen his tie and unbutton the first three buttons of his white dress shirt as he sat on the arm of the same couch he placed the jacket, never once breaking eye contact with her.

He was seeing if she would run out that door the moment he looked away. She was smart enough to realize that, but she had no intention on running. He'd just catch her again.

So instead she just remained where she was as the silence over took them.

"What is it that you're trying to protect?"

"Everything. And as I said before i don't trust you just yet. And in all honesty I didn't want to trust me at first either. I don't expect that from someone you just met. Trust is something that is formed over time. I don't intend on keeping you here forever Anya."

"Then what do I have to do to prove to you that I won't say anything?"

Fear seeped into her skin at the thought that he would force her to be his mate. Or even worse, he was going to kill her after all and she couldn't help but chew on her lip.

A bad habit of hers she did when she was nervous or excited.

Sighing he scratched the side of his head as he thought of a way to go about this without having to go through with what he needed to do, and that wasn't killing her.

He could see the fear and uneasiness creeping in her the longer he just sat there and didn't say anything.

In all honesty he didn't want her to leave. He knew she was his mate and he knew why she didn't feel the one thing that binded them together.

But he really was risking everything if he told her everything right now. She needed to gain his trust and he hers, and that didn't happen right away.

Trust was only built after a certain time of getting to know one another and forming a relationship with one another.

He couldn't ask her to do something like that. But he needed her to know where he stood with her right now. And that was that he would put his pack before her or anything right now.

This whole place could go up in flames if she ran out of here and started telling people that she knew where his home was.

He didn't care that she was his mate. He knew the closest people to you could turn on you in a heartbeat. He killed several already just to keep the people who entrusted him with their lives safe.

There were children he protected alongside with their families. Who was he to put them in danger just to prove to the redheaded woman in front of him that she was his.

A groan erupted from him as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew what he was going to do to keep her mouth shut. The only problem in that is getting her to go along with it.

He could already tell she would challenge him with questions on why, but he couldn't answer them.

But that's what he liked about her already.

So to ease the fear he could feel radiating off her he said the only thing he could.

"I'm not going to force you into being my mate. That goes against everything I know."

Anya visibly relaxed and let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding.

"But?" she could tell he still had more to say.

"I want you to stay the remainder of the night."

Well that was simple enough. Painless and easy. She could deal with that she supposed.

Just when she was about to agree to it she was hit with his next proposition. One that made her scrunch up her brows.

"In the morning before you leave I am going to hinder your ability to so much as utter a word about any of this."

Before she could say anything he started to speak up once more.

"It's just just a precaution. I'm risking a lot by letting you go, but as I said before it's not my intention to keep you here. In reality you and I lead different lives. The forest is yours and this pack is mine. I won't imprison you in a life you don't lead, but i need to be sure my people will be safe."

"Then why not just kill me. I mean hell that would save your pretty face all the wrinkles from the stress won't it?."

He groaned at her remark as a shudder passed through her from the sound.

Oh god Anya do not become attracted to this maniac.

"Jesus woman is death the only solution to this you have? For heavens sake I'm not going to kill my mate."

"And for heavens sake I am not your mate, Alpha Rose."

"Blaine. Call me Blaine. And darling one day I'm going to make you eat those words."

"I'm sure you will" she said with rolling eyes.

"Watch me."

He winked at her as he got up from where he sat and went about telling her that the house they were in was the one he stayed in when he wanted to get away from the pack house, and how she would be staying here for the night.

All she could think about was how worried sick Nixon was back at home.
