I grabbed his hand and slowly pulled me up. My heart felt like it has broke into a million pieces. My brain was still trying to process what Ezra told me 5 minutes ago. "We are going to take a trip to the backyard." He said with a small smile. With that said we both were half way down the stairs before I heard him say. "Crap I forgot to get us a jacket... its kind of chilly outside." Ezra ran back up the stairs and into his room. Before I knew it he had his black Columbia jacket on and he handed me his Nike pull over. He knew that I loved this one. I gave him a small smile and followed him out the door to his back yard. The swing set since we were kids was still up. I laughed when I watched him sit in a swing. I sat beside him. "You remember when we would spend hours out here just swinging and talking about everything under the moon!" He laughed and looked over at me. "Yeah... those were when things were easy....." I looked down at the ground still trying to pull myself together. "I love you Autumn Dupree." When I heard those words it made my heart warm. "I love you too Ezra Smith." I smiled thinking about all the good times we had when we were kids. Then the thought of when Ezra first found out he has cancer came rushing to me. A few tears escaped my eyes again. "Hey please... don't cry..." I felt him in front of me now. "I'm sorry.... I just can't picture you gone... not with me... I know it sounds selfish as I don't know what! But you belong here Ezra... we are suppose to grow old together! We are suppose to have the argument of you leaving the toilet seat up! We are suppose to have a life together... kids..." The look on his face said it all. He slowly pulled a box from his pocket and looked at it for a minute. Ezra looked up at me and smiled. "Autumn Rose Dupree. I love you. I honestly didn't have a speech planned out for this but... here it goes... I want to spend the rest of what I have left on this earth with you. I want you to be able tell our kids silly stories about how we would sit here on the swing sets and talk about absolutely nothing. I want you to be Mrs. Autumn Dupree Smith." He took a deep breath and opened the box slowly. "Will you marry me?" I was in so much shock. My heart felt like it was about to burst. There was not many words to describe how I felt right now in this moment. "Yes." Is all I managed to get out. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed his lips. "Yes yes yes yes yes a million times yes!" I said as tears began to fall again. He slowly slid the ring on my finger. I slowly leaned my forehead against his and whispered. "I love you Ezra Smith." Our lips met again.
