Autumn’s POV

I feel like an idiot. The biggest idiot of all the idiots in Idiot-town. Why’d you have to go and lose your cool, Autumn? Huh! As soon as I get a few people between Zack and I, I am fine. Just peachy. At least I manage to walk away with my shoulders straight.

I am sick of this gathering. I had done all the damage I possibly could do and more. I am in some serious need for girl time.

I, Autumn Wright,  have a mate. I have never really wanted one. Never really seen the point. All I’ve ever cared about is my fighting. But now that I have one, boy do I want him. I don’t want a mate – I just want my mate. Of course, it doesn’t help when he doesn’t know I exists and passes me off as a giggling, air headed schoolgirl.

“Katrina!” I call through the crowds, standing on my tiptoes in a hopeless attempt to see over the heads of these freaking giants.

“Autumn!” I voice shouts at my back. I spin around, hoping it’s Katrina but knowing it wasn’t. Unless, that is, Katrina suddenly turned into a dude.

“Trey?” I ask, looking over my shoulder.

“No dip Sherlock.”

I roll my eyes at him. “Have you seen Katrina? I really need to talk to her.”

Trey shakes his head. “No, but, um, listen Autumn.”

I sigh, crossing my arms and fiddling with my necklace. “What do you want, Trey?” I ask him. “Not to be rude or anything, but this is really important.”

“This is important too,” he insists. “I was wondering… well would you like to come out with me tonight?”

I smile .”Of course, Trey. That’s not that big a deal. We go out all the time.”

Trey grimaces. “No, Autumn. As in will you  go out with me. Like on a date and stuff.”

I freeze, staring at him. Now? Really? Now! I have liked Trey for years, I’ve always wanted him to ask me out. Until today that is. “Trey,” I say softly. I don’t want to hurt his feelings because he’s my best friend and I really do like him. “I can’t Trey. I wish you had asked me just a few hours ago. It’s just that…,” I clutch my hands into fists, wanting so badly to punch something. Preferably Zack.

Trey smiles sadly, shrugging his shoulders like it doesn’t matter. “I get it,” he tells me. “I didn’t think you would say yes anyway.” H e turns and starts walking away and I grab the back of his shirt.

“Really Trey, it’s not like that. I really want to say yes. I’ve wanted you to ask me out for… a while. But I have a mate Trey.” I admit apologetically.

Trey’s eyes widen a fraction. “You do? Who?”

I scowl, glancing back over my shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Are you sure you haven’t seen Katrina.”

Trey gets a detached look on his face, as if his thoughts are occupied with something more important. “Positive,” he mutters, walking past me and into the crowd behind me.

“Oh thank you,” I mumble under my breath. “You’re ever so helpful.”

I abort my mission to find Katrina. It’s all together possible that she already went home or was hiding  in the woods texting.  In fact, that was likely. Figuring that I’ll just call her tonight or randomly show up at her house, I go search for Eric instead. I would just leave but Eric always gets all on edge and crap. I don’t see why, if anyone tried to kidnap me or something, they would be the ones tied up unconscious, not me.
