Autumn’s POV
I hate the rain. I hate the cold. I hate the WORLD.
God, where am I anyway? I have no clue. I might not even be in the city anymore, now that I think about it. I did run pretty far. Didn’t want to risk running into Zack.
The sun is starting to come up on the horizon and soon people will be up an about. I half hope that I’m in the bad part of town, just so I can punch some fool in the face, but judging by the houses, I most definitely am not. Sadly, I will not be punching anyone in the foreseeable future.
“Red,” a disbelieving voice says behind me. My eyes narrow, but I put a cheery smile on my face.
“Hey there Wilson!” I chirp. He looks at me as if I’m insane, which, I might just be. I haven’t been feeling the most mentally stable as of late.
“What are you doing back in this part of town?” he asks, sifting uncomfortably.
“Oh, just running from my past,” I reply casually, “You know, the usual.”
Wilson, Harry, or whatever his first name is, is a member of a gang I used to be in. I just kind of up and left them a few months ago, made a mental note to never come back into their territory, but it must have slipped my mind. Wilson, at least was cool, so I didn’t have to worry about him. If I had been found by one of the bigger guys though… well, I would be fine, but they would probably be dead by now.
“Red,” he says quietly, looking around with paranoia, “You shouldn’t be here.”
I raise a skeptically eyebrow, laughing softly. “I go wherever I want to, you know this.”
“Yeah, but we have direct orders to kill you if you ever show your face.”
My smile drops immediately. “Don’t you try it Wilson. I have no problems killing the others, but I would prefer not to have to do that to you.”
He holds his hands up in surrender. “I’m not saying that. But if anyone else sees you…”
“I’ll kill them,” I substitute in for what he was going to say. “Who gave this order anyway? The boss should know better. There was a reason he didn’t want me to leave, after all.”
“Red,” he warns. “We have a new boss.”
“Shaking in my boots,” I say sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
“Red,” he repeats, gaining urgency. “This guy is serious business.” He looks like he’s trying to tell me something. Something important.
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“Okay Red, I know how this is going to sound, but just hear me out.” I stand, waiting for him to continue. “This guy, he’s not human, Red. He’s… something else. He’s – he’s a…a werewolf…”
This new revelation causes me to laugh. Didn’t see that coming, but, I kill rogues on a daily bases. Nothing new for me. What I’m wondering about is, how does Wilson know this?
“It’s not funny Red! I’m being serious! This isn’t a joke!”
I wave my hands, trying to calm him down. “I know, I believe you.”
“Not time for your sarcasm!” he snaps.
Well, I figure he already knows…
I straighten up, trying to retain a straight face even when the situation is so ridiculous.
