Maybe they had over romanced the idea that she would know who her real parents were. Maybe they had over romanced the thought that she would be their biggest fan, and would have attended every concert in the area. Maybe they were in denial.

Maybe they thought she would run to them with open arms after a concert. Maybe they hoped that they would continue where they left off.

"Carter..." Stevie started, her heart breaking a little, "Why are you at a Fleetwood Mac concert if you hate the band?"

"Well, you see. I was talking about how much I didn't like the band. And then someone at my job overheard. They thought I said that I liked the band. So they gave me tickets, for my birthday."

"So is today your birthday?" Stevie inquired, hoping for the right answer.

"Yesterday actually. The tickets were a day late. September 4th, 1981, in 'Sunny California'!"

Lindsey tapped Stevie, giving her a look of support. "So why'd you come if you hated Fleetwood Mac?"

"Free concert tickets, man. And. And. And! I fucking love Stevie. Like. I had every album of her's at the time in 6th/7th grade. I loved that woman, like obsessively."

Stevie smirked towards Lindsey. He could see a newly replinished sparkle that he first noticed when he realized that she was a mother.

"You know," Carter started again, "I would die if I met her." That's when it hit them. She didn't know who she was talking to. "You two. You two are alright. What are you like 40? You look good for 40. We should do this again. Want to meet up tomorrow?"

"We have a few days in LA, before we leave." Lindsey said, still smiling about the '40' remark.

"Are you two on like a vacation?"

"You could call it that." Stevie smiled.

"Ah. Honeymoon! You two are the cutest married couple I have ever met."

After that their faces dropped. They had smiled and even played along when other people had said that about them.

Maybe they could have, if they had tried to make it work. But sitting next to each other, on those bar stools next to their possible daughter could only make them think of one thing: how much they wanted, and how much they needed each other in this moment.
