As I lay dying in the Phantom's arms, I look into eyes and, with every ounce of strength I have left, sing "kiss me one last time". His eyes look kind, yet in his eyes all the sadness of the world. He knows that this is the last thing I will remember, and he is trying to hold back the tears that I notice have started to form.
He lifts me gently up towards him and kisses me on the lips, for what is the last time. I inhale his scent and am immediately transported back to where it all began. Has it really been ten years? Ten years since the day that our paths crossed for the first time? Ten years since my life changed forever. I was so young and vulnerable back then that what was happening to me right now wasn't even a thought in my mind.
I remember that day so clearly, as if it was yesterday. My father had died and on his death bed he had promised to send the Angel of Music to me. The Phantom is my angel of music, and he made me who I am today. On that day, that not so distant day, I was rushing as usual. We were rehearsing a scene from the opera that was opening that very night, the one that would make me a star.
The Phantom lowers me back to the ground, and I close my eyes. I am transported back to that fateful day. I can hear the music, I can see the lights.
