As he leads me into the catacombs of the opera house, I start recalling every time he came to visit me. I sing, my voice strong and haunting. "In sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came. That voice which calls to me, and speaks my name. And do I dream again, for now I find. The Phantom of the Opera is there, inside my mind." My eyes follow the light of his lantern and he suddenly has power over my being. He croons "Sing once again with me, our strange duet. My power over you, grows stronger yet". He's got that right. I look behind me and I feel his hand beneath my chin, turning my face back toward his as he continues. "And though you turn from me, to glance behind. The Phantom of the Opera is there, inside your mind."
He sweeps his cape over me again and my mind is spinning, since I have no idea where we are or where we are going. Trembling, I continue 'our strange duet' "Those who have seen your face, draw back in fear. I am that mask you wear". He counters with "It's me they hear" We are suddenly speaking in unison. "Your (my) spirit and my (your) voice, in one combined. The Phantom of the Opera is there, inside my (your) mind. I am suddenly brought back to reality as I hear water splashing and what sounds like a paddle hitting the water. We are in a boat, he is behind me, paddling though this lake with a pole. He croons on, "In all your fantasies, you always knew, that man and mystery"....I turn and look at him saying "were both in you".
He joins me in unison again, "And in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the Opera is here (there), inside my (your) mind." By now we have reached our destination. It looks like something out of a moving picture. Candles surround this enchanted room, an organ to my left, a covered object to my right. More candles offset a back wall and what looks like a grate hangs over my head ominously.
He helps me out of the boat and spins me around to face him. "Sing for me, sing my Angel of Music" he breaths. Now he really is 'inside my mind'. I have no control over the situation, so I start vocalizing, following him with my gaze, my eyes never leaving him "Sing!" he commands me over and over as he takes off his cape and hat, and fixes his hair. He grabs me by the shoulders and spins me. My vocals get stronger and stronger. "Sing, my angel" he says as he walks towards the organ. "Sing!" he commands as he goes up the steps and stands behind the organ. "SING FOR ME!" I hit probably the highest note ever. What was that? A D7? No, too low..... Wait. Did I really just hit an E6? In shock, I grab my throat and start breathing heavily.
