"A dance??" I exclaimed, scaring Julie.

"Yes, we're having a dance. The community is holding a dance and we're invited. It's basically prom. You gotta have a date." Julie explained.

"Oh wow. Okay."

"And there's this rule. Boys have to ask the girls, the girls can't ask the boys. I like this rule if you ask me." Julie added, laughing.

"Yeah me too. I wonder if Max would ask me."

"Are you kidding?? Of course Max would ask you!" Julie exclaimed.

I had told Julie all about our little date. Her reaction was priceless. We were sitting on my bed and she kept poking me, urging me to spill the details.

"Okay Julie calm yourself. I'll tell you!" I yelled, laughing.

I explained the whole date to her from beginning to end while eating Oreos.

"...and then he kinda..." I started.

"Then he WHATTT? Marley, I'm being tortured here!" Julie yelled, knitting her eyebrows together.

"He kind of..." I began.

"MARLEYYYY!! I'll throw this lamp shade at you I swear I will." Julie screamed. By this time I was cracking up laughing.

I stopped laughing and gave Julie a smile. She egged me on with her eyes.

"Okay." I said, already blushing. "He kissed me."

Julie shrieked and shook my shoulders, an Oreo falling out of my hand meanwhile.

"MARLZZZ!!!"

"JULLZZZ!!!"

"I am proud of your Marley Diana Weller."

"You know I hate it when you use my middle name." I pushed. She smiled at me and gave me a nudge.

"I don't care. I'm proud you've moved on from that bum. I never really liked him you know." Julie stated.

"I noticed. Every time I told you I was going out with him you would turn all sour and mutter profanities under your breath. I'm not dumb you know."

Julie brushed and rubbed her arm.

"Was it that obvious?"

"Uh huh." I replied, smiling at my best friend.

"Tonight." Max replied to my sudden question.

"I don't know Max. I don't feel like a party." I complained, my grip tightening on Max's hand as a wave crept up the shoreline, threatening to drench my Vans.

"Come on, come with me! I promise I'll make it a good night. For you. I'll even take you there." Max said, reassuringly.

"Mm." I thought about what happened last time I attended a party. My boyfriend broke up with me.
