The next day, it was your turn to go to Wirt's house before the park. In the morning you remembered about an invitation you had gotten from a "friend" at school to come over the next day. You'd meant to ask your parents the night before, but you'd forgotten. You found your mom and asked.

"Tomorrow?" she confirmed.

"Yeah," you replied. "She wants to watch a movie."

"Hm, sorry, sweetie, but no," she told you.

You were taken aback. Normally your parents were so laid back; plus, you didn't have anything going on at that time.

"Do we have something going on tomorrow?" you asked.

"You need accept my answer," she said. "Maybe next time."You nodded and walked off. How strange, well, she has her reasons, you thought.

Later, you got a call at about 2:00. It was Wirt.

"Hey, can we meet somewhere else today?" he asked.

"Sure, anywhere in mind?" you replied.

"Yeah, um, could you meet me at my house?" he requested.

"Sure thing," you agreed. "I'll be over at three?"

"Okay," he confirmed. "I'll see you."

You hung up and waited for 3:00 to roll around. You let your parents know you were going and made your way to Wirt's house.

You knocked on the door and heard Greg's muffled voice. Soon, Wirt opened the door.

"Hi, (y/n)," he greeted you, gesturing you inside.

You smiled and stepped in, "Hello."

"I'll be just a minute, wait here?" He asked.

You nodded and smiled. Greg came barreling down the hallway once Wirt had disappeared.

"Hi, (y/n)!" He grinned. "Do you want to see Jason Funderburker's new socks?"

"Sure," you told him, bringing about a laugh from the little kid. He ran down to his room and came

back with a pair of orange and purple, polka-dotted socks.

"Quite the colors you got there," you observed, inspecting the fuzzy socks. They seemed a waste on an amphibian, but it made Greg happy; you definitely knew what you were getting him for Christmas.

"This way I can't lose them," he smiled. He gently took back the socks and ran them back to his room. At this point, Wirt came down the hall.

"Sorry, I had to uh- Do you want to go?" he asked.

"Where are we going?" you asked.

"I suppose it's a surprise," he smiled.

"Alright then," you smiled back.

After saying goodbye to Greg, you left with Wirt. He didn't talk much while you walked. The suspense was getting to you. Where were you going? Why was it a surprise? Was it far? How long would it take to get there? You looked at Wirt; his face displayed amusement, but also some anxiety. You furrowed your brow in thought.

"Here," Wirt broke your train of thought. You looked up and saw a large hill. You looked at him, confused.

"We've got to go to the top," he explained. You nodded and the two of you trudged up the steep hill. Once at the top, you looked out; the whole city fell into sight.

"Wow," you muttered.

"I thought you'd like this," he paused. He began to say something else, but took it back. You looked at him; the amusement was fading into a full on expression of worry.

"What's wrong?" you asked, concerned.

"What?" he asked quickly.

"You look troubled," you told him.

"I'm just-" he looked out over the city and took a deep breath. He looked back to you. "I don't want things to get weird."

"Weird?" you chuckled. "What do you mean?"

"Well, we've been hanging out for a while, and I don't want our friendship to wither," he paused. "But

because we've been spending time together, things have been changing without me realizing."

"What do you-"

"I'm getting to the point," he assured you. "I've been seeing you in a different way; a way I thought would never grace my mind. I mean, I guess what I'm trying to say is.. I like you. And I wanted to know if you'd go with me on a date?" He stayed silent, waiting for your response.

You felt your cheeks turn red. If he meant that as you understood it, things would be different indeed. You'd never really thought about liking Wirt like that. You always thought he was cute, but you'd never let it go past that.

But seeing him there, in those conditions, after what he'd just said, you felt an odd sense of euphoria. You smiled. Your smile soon turned into laughing.

Wirt looked at you, almost horrified. "(Y-y/n)?"

You looked at him and suppressed your laugh into a wide grin. "I'd love to. When?"

"Tomorrow?" he asked. "I've already asked your parents. I went by while you were at {insert after school activity}."

You nearly laughed again. Your mom was covering earlier. She knew what Wirt was planning and needed to be sure you would be free.

"Sure," you smiled. He sighed and smiled as well. You took his hand. He flinched a little at the touch, but didn't pull his hand away. The two of you stood, watching the city grow dark. You could only hope things wouldn't get too weird between the two of you. But if things stayed the way they were then, you couldn't see a downside.

~~~A/N- So, I really stink with the romance stuff. I'm trying not to make it real sappy, but it just come so natural.. Well, I have no idea what I want to do with the date; so if you have any suggestions, go ahead and give them, otherwise I'll be improvising.~~~
