Chapter Four "Just Be Friends"

Adam came jogging towards me and I groaned. "Hey Lily." He said, I forced a smile, "Hey."

"So, you want me to walk you home?" He gave me that, 'you don't really have a choice, I'm just being polite' face. I sighed and nodded, he smiled and we made our way out of the school. I stared at the floor as we walked, he held the door open for me and I thanked him. I couldn't hear what he was saying any more, my thoughts were too loud and my mind kept going back to Skylar and the piece of paper I had sitting in my pocket.

"Hey! Are you listening? You've been space-y all day." I stopped walking, and grabbed the piece of paper with Skylar's number on it and handed it to Adam, "Here... Just take it..." I walked faster and towards the park near my house. I sighed and sat down on one of the swings, "Why couldn't it be me? Am I that repulsive?" I mumbled to myself. A shadow appeared next to me and I looked up to see Adam sit down on the swing next to mine. "Five years Adam, it's been five years and you have yet to notice..." My voice trailed off, weak. 

He looked at me, his eyes filled with confusion. "What do you mean? Five years of what?" 

"Can we finish this back home? I need food for this." He nodded and we both stood up off the swings. He picked my bag up off the ground and swung it onto his shoulder. We walked out of the park and back to the main road. I looked up at the sky, at the clouds, and a small smile crept onto my face as I recalled all the times we've walked home together like this.
