I reached over to the passenger seat of my car to grab my hip pack and stood back up.
Just as I finished clipping it on and tucking the extra material into my shorts, I heard my name being called.
"JENNA, OVER HERE!!"
I turned to face where the yelling was coming from. It was Matt and some of the other people from our training class.
"Give me one second." I yelled back.
Turning back around to my car, I slipped my whistle over my neck and grabbed my shoulder bag and water bottle.
Checking to make sure I had my money and ID card, I locked my car and shut the door. I walked over to the other guards.
"Hey guys, who else is ready for today?" I asked.
"I'm so stoked," Hailey started, "like I've been waiting for this every since training finished."
I smiled and nodded at her, understanding exactly what she was talking about.
"Well I on the other hand am absolutely terrified. We have all those people to watch over and we all know today is going to packed with it being Opening Day." Alex said, making a big deal out of nothing again.
"Come on Alex it's going to be a blast." I said trying to boost his morale.
He just scoffed and rolled his eyes at me. After he turned around, I looked at Matt and shrugged.
"Can't please everyone," I mouthed, "especially Mr. GrumpyPants." nodding my head towards Alex. Matt and Hailey had to muffle their laughs.
Matt's face lit up and I knew he was going to say something nasty.
"Hey Alex, what if you catch people getting it on in the pool or lounge chairs?" adding an inappropriate gesture, a wicked smile plastered on his face.
Alex spun around.
"That's just gross, Matt! Why would you say that?!"
" He's right, Alex." Hailey said.
"Yeah, you heard the stories during training." I added. "We don't know what we are going to deal with this summer."
"Whatever. He didn't need to say it." Alex turned back around and started to walk faster.
"Bye-bye weirdo." Matt said and I hit his arm.
"What was that for?!" he exclaimed
"For being nasty and being mean." I said with a smirk.
Matt just smiled.
"I can't help when an opportunity appears to make someone uncomfortable. And you know I did us all a favor with that one."
"We know." Hails replied sarcastically and rolled her eyes.
"Yo, guys wait up."
We turned to see two figures running towards us.
"Run!!!!" I yelled.
"We are, you moron!!!"
They got to us, panting to a stop.
"You know Jenna, yo- hold on let me catch my breath." one of the guys said.
"Take your time, Marcus. Cause you know, we don't have anywhere to be in-" I looked at my watch, "15 minutes."
He glared up at me.
"Your such a smartass."
I smiled and slapped him on the back.
"Thanks love, I appreciate your observation but I already knew that."
Matt, Hails and the other guy laughed.
I looked at the other guy.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Connor. I-" I interrupted him.
"Great! I'm Jenna. This is Matt and Hails."
That was me. Only on a need to know bases with everyone. I know it seems rude but we were suppose to be somewhere.
He smiled and I smiled back. For someone that just ran, he's not very out of breath.
Glancing back down at Marcus, I grinned.
"Come on, love thats enough rest. Don't want to be late on your first day."
He stood back up and we started walking towards the traintracks.
"Trust me, I know. My brothers are supervisors." he said
"That sucks." Hails replied.
"Well the only thing you can do about is quit and I forbid you to do such a thing." I said.
"Wouldn't dream of it." he told me with a smile.
I smiled back.
"Good. Now lets go save some lives."
