Chapter Five
“Cheevs!” the door flew open, Garrett came crashing into the room his black hair dripping wet, his t-shirt on backwards.
“What happened Chihuahua?” Naomi pushed her way in around Garrett, who was staring at her sitting on the bed.
“Garrett! Make room!” Dean complained, pushing Garrett, getting him to move a bit and managing to join his sister at Chiwa’s bedside.
“I dunno,” Chiwa said, rubbing her forehead. “I guess I fell asleep,” she forced a smile. “You didn’t rush here, did you Garrett?” Chiwa frowned at his appearance.
“No, I was in the shower when I got a call from your phone, and it was almost time for me to go get the twins anyway,” Garrett said, walking up behind the twins and putting a hand on each of their heads, Dean swatting at his hand.
“Your shirt is on backwards!” Naomi giggled, poking Flavia in the side, making the girl jump with a squeak.
“It is?” Garrett asked, tugging at his collar, finding the tag. “Well whaddya know?” he grunted, pulling his short off over his head and turning it around before pulling it back on. “There,” he said.
“Nice abs,” Flavia grinned up at Garrett, whose hair was sticking up at odd angles.
“Garrett, don’t rush like that, someday you’ll fall and hurt yourself or something,” Chiwa frowned, ignoring Harvey shooting suspicious looks at her.
“At least it’ll be for a good cause,” Garrett smiled, shooing Flavia and the twins away so he could sit down on the edge of her bed.
“You sure you just fell asleep?” Garrett asked with a frown, his hazel eyes filled with concern, reaching out a hand and placing it against her forehead.
“You’re running a fever,” his frown deepened. “Get up, we’re going home and you are going to take a bath and go lay down,” he said.
“But dinner-” Chiwa spoke up, being silenced by him.
“That wasn’t a suggestion Chiwa,” Garrett said firmly, turning around to shoot Harvey a look. “And you should be getting home too,” he added. “I don’t even know why you’re in here.”
Before Harvey or Flavia could open their mouths to complain or respond, Garrett had lifted Chiwa up and out of the bed, holding her in his arms.
“G-Garrett!” Chiwa exclaimed, her cheeks flushing a deeper red than they already were from the fever.
“By Flavia, I’d get that kid to walk you home, because there have been recent cases of kidnapping on the news,” Garrett called back at her and Harvey, who was glaring at Garrett.
“Oh Alto-“ Flavia half sang, the rest of her sentence being cut off by the door Naomi had pulled shut.
“You can put me down now,” Chiwa piped up as Garrett carried her through the hallways of the school he had visited until around three years ago. She too would be graduating soon, and still needed to put thought into what she was going to do after high school.
