Stretching, Light lets out a sigh, "Finally. I'm so tired."
"Same," You agree, yawning as you both make your way out of the building. School has ended for now and all you wanted to do was sleep. You couldn't get much sleep last night trying to study for the upcoming exam which was next week. Both you and Light stayed up on the phone, helping each other study and also talking about stuff that weren't related to what you guys were working on.
"Are we going to study today again as well?" He asks, rubbing the bag under his eyes. He wouldn't look at you and his tone didn't show much emotion so you couldn't tell if he wanted to or not.
"Up to you," You shrug.
"Hah? Why? You're the one whose always in control" He emphasizes, giving you a funny look.
You roll your eyes, "I just-" you paused abruptly, unable to find a reason. Today, you just felt like you didn't care. It was one of those days when the past suddenly comes back without warning and you just felt depressed. L...,"Gosh, I don't know! At least I'm letting you decide for once!" You snap, suddenly irritated.
"Are you on your thing?" He teases with a snort. Despite seeing how irritated you are, he doesn't let it affect him at all.
Your eyebrows twitch as you glare at him, embarrassed even though you weren't on your period. "Can you not?"
"Okay, okay!" He chuckles, "I'm just kidding."
You soften as soon as you see his smile. So innocent and angelic. You wish it would always be like this. Just the two of you being playful and happy with nothing dark getting in your ways... but that wasn't possible was it? Reality isn't like that...
"What's wrong?" He frowns, noticing the sad smile on your face.
"Nothing" You sigh, "Just tired, I guess."
"Are you still mad? Is that why?"
"No, no, no, no" You shake your head, "That's not it..."
"Tell me," He presses. You can see the concern in his eyes as his eyebrows push inwards.
Defeated, you finally admit,"I'm just feeling pretty down right now, so I'm thinking of depressing stuff. Especially of the past." You added.
"Oh... then shall I make you laugh?" He gives a small smile.
Returning one, you challenge, "If you can."
~~~~~
"I think the math teacher hates me or something..." You say to Light the next day as you both walk home together on the same road.
"Why do you think so?" He laughs once, arching his brow.
"Because!" You sigh, "He's always calling on me!"
"But it's not like you don't know the stuff we're learning, so it's fine isn't it?"
"But it's like he's testing me! He must think I'm cheating on tests or something since I always ace them!" You insist, twirling your [H/C] hair as you kick a small rock to the side.
"Maybe it's because of your attitude" He jokes.
"Tch. I can't help it." You mutter. You stop when you're about to kick a black notebook.
"[Y/N]?" Light questions, his voice a few feet ahead of you.
You reach down and pick up the paper covered notebook that read Death Note on the front. Seems plain, you frown, but there was something about it. It seemed like an interesting read. Maybe the title? It was just a book, but it made you shiver.
"Don't pick up trash, [Y/N]" Light walks over to you, "If you want a book that bad, I could buy you one."
"Doesn't this book seem strange?" You dismissed, showing him the book's cover.
He frowns, "Seems pretty plain to me."
"Death note..." You turn over the cover and you're met with a black page with white fonts and skull.
"'The human whose name is written in this note shall die'"Light reads the first sentence, then scoffs, "What utter crap."
"Hey, don't say that! The person who made something like this is pretty creative, don't you think?" You flip through a few pages, skimming through them. You're soon met with white pages with black lines like a notebooks. Flipping through the rest of the book, you encounter the same thing.
"Seems like a normal notebook..." Light says.
"With rules" You add, looking at the cover again.
"Maybe it is just utter crap" You conclude after a moment, but you can't help but think it might be real. Though it wouldn't really benefit you either way. Sure there were people who you would like to kill, but it wasn't like you would achieve anything-except dead corpses- but that wasn't the point. Would L try it out? You suddenly wonder, coming to a conclusion that he would try it out just to see if it was real. He would, but not with the intent of murder, you decide confidently.
"Do you want it?" You hold the book out to Light.
"Why would I want something so stupid?" He waves you off.
"Then throw it away for me" You shove it to his chest.
He takes it, flipping through it, then looks at the front and back before looking back at the front and staring at the title. He stares at it intensely and you swore for just a second, you saw his eyes darken.
A grin appears on his face all of a sudden, "I guess I'll take it. Free notebook. Thanks!"
"Oh, you!" You laugh, jabbing him on the side as he yelps, scooting away from you.
In the shadows, an inhuman figure sighs, waiting for someone to use it.
