You yawn, walking lazily to the couch and falling on it. You sigh comfortably as soon as you meet contact with the soft cushion. It was the 5th day since you and Light found that book and weird deaths have been happening around Japan. Is that a coincidence or not? Could the book have worked? Is Light really...?
You shake your head in disbelief, sitting up as quickly as you thought of that possibility. Are you thinking too much of it? But what if...? This is too much for a coincidence. And on the first page of the Death Note, it said that 'The human whose name is written in this note shall die' . This proves it! But why would Light...?
You shake your head again. Thinking it was too early in the morning for such assumptions, you pick up the remote and turn the TV on.
"-taken 4 children as hostages. The police has identified the suspect as Yamaguchi Atsushi-" Your mind drifted off as you stare at the screen. Ugh... children? How sick. Seriously, what's wrong with people? You shake your head in disgust, I wish I could just jump through the TV and-
"-The suspect is dead!" The lady yells in the mic. You gasp as you stare at the screen, wondering what in the world has happened. You couldn't make out the words the lady was saying. Voices of your own thoughts jumbled in your mind. All you could hear were parts of sentences the lady was shouting. "Collapsed all of a sudden... police... checking... safe... suspect... heart attack...". None of them made sense.
"Kira..." You say the name; your voice barely audible. You weren't sure if you should be feeling glad he or she killed the suspect. But how was the question. In the notebook, it never said anything about a heart attack. Well, you only read the first sentence... but you desperately wanted to believe that Light didn't do it. Your best friend as a murderer? Light? No way! So how did they do it? Perhaps they were there at the scene? What do they do to give someone a heart attack? Actually... is that even possible?
"Will L try to solve this as well?" You wonder out loud to yourself.
------
You're sitting next to the window in class, drifting off as the teacher starts lecturing something about the organs of an animal. You begin to nod off, eyelids growing heavy until something pokes you in the back. You turn around to see Light amused. He holds out a folded piece of white paper and you take it hesitantly.
Turning back around, you open the paper curiously, not giving much thought of what this is about.
[Let's go to my house after school today. I have to show and tell you something. I think I can trust you to keep a secret?]
You gulp, re-reading it. In your gut, you had a very bad feeling. You're very certain that Light is Kira. It had to be the notebook. He wrote the names in the notebook and they somehow got a heart attack and died. It had to be. But what did Light want from you? Why would he want to show and tell you? Why does he even want you to know?
You felt so anxious with all these unanswered questions. Light wouldn't kill you- at least that's what you wanted to believe.
After you ran away from Wammy's, you were wandering on the streets. You thought of turning back so many times- heck, You even dreamt of going back to where L was and you'd mix it up with reality. But you hated that place. You didn't want to go back. You didn't want to be trained. Though being 'gifted' should be a good and a rather rare thing, why didn't you feel happy for having it? Why doesn't it feel... special?
You didn't know how, but you were somehow able to manage. You managed to survive... somehow. Luck, most likely. Luck was on your side. But on the streets, you saw many terrible things. Cruel things. You saw the harsh truth of the world before your eyes, and you hated it. It was the price for running away maybe, but totally worth it.
You met Light afterwards; a year away from now. You saw he was always first place so, you decided to be true to the test paper for once. And the outcome? He was second place and you were first. Now that you thought about it, that was how the both of you met. It all started with you being number one, and him being number 2, wasn't it? Though you were the one to start the friendship. Ah, now that you're thinking of the past, you remember you once mentioned that you had a hate for criminals, and surprisingly, Light agreed.
It all fits now. He must be thinking of having you join him... to help him! To get rid of criminals together! Does he really trust you that much though? No, it's not that he trusts you, but that he must think you'll definitely help him of all people since you've seen most of the world.
"It seems you figured it out now, right?" He whispers behind you, making you shudder. This doesn't sound like Light. "Took you long enough," He says in what sounds like a smirk.
