for unrequited love

you are silent.

you are silent because
you look at them.
all you see is the gold in their eyes
and the way they play with their fingers
when they get awfully nervous.
you see the beauty in their soul
through something
as simple as a smile.
their name, engraved in your mind
like vandalism in a public restroom.
they look at you.
but they don't see
the way you ruffle your hair when you
can't stop thinking about something,
or the way your eyes illuminate
a blue as clear as
the mediterranean sea
under the sunlight.
you know they can't
reciprocate those feelings because
you aren't as glorious
as they deserve.
you know that.

so you stay silent.
