“Hey! Wake up! We’re going to be late for school!” a half-angry, short brown haired girl yelling.
“Sooo…? It’s still early.” A yawning voice replied.
“Hey, did you know Andrew’s back from London? I heard he got a lot hotter.” trying to convince her friend to get out of bed.
“What?! He did? Since when????” Mary shouted getting out of bed heading to the washroom, jumping up and down squealing.
I knew that would work, Clarissa talking to herself in her head.
“So, Mary” Clarissa said while getting Mary the clothes she would wear. “You still aren’t over Andrew Cox, are you?”
“What are you talking about?” Mary desperately said trying to change the topic.
Riiiing! Riiiiing! Riiiing! The clock yelled.
“Hey! Hurry up! We have about 5 minutes to get to our classroom!” Clarissa shouted, worriedly.
“Yah, yah, yah.” A mocking tone of Mary's replied.
The washroom door opened for a wet Mary to go get her clothes. Wearing only a towel, she came walking towards her best friend, Clarissa. Mary and Clarissa were best friends since Kindergarten and now they’re facing the high school life. They’ve been living together since their school was far away from Oklahoma. They both decided to be independent and together until the end, but on holidays or breaks they go back to visit their family.
“Hey! Let’s go now.” Clarissa said as she prepared to lock their apartment.
“Yeah, I’ll just grab a bite.” Mary hurrying to get some food.
They walked out together heading to the bus stop.
“So, Mary Wilson….” Riss said waiting for her reply.
“So, Clarissa Jones….” She copied.
“You really aren’t letting him go yet?” Riss smirked.
“Huh? W-what? What are you talking about?” Mary replied blinking and looking around, trying not to make it obvious.
“Oh. Just give it up! I thought I’m your best friend..? I thought best friends tell each other everything?” Riss said pouting to cajole Mary into telling her if she is or not over him yet.
Mary sighed. “Okay. Fine. Riss. Here, I’ll tell you.”
“Yes!! Thank you!” Riss rejoiced.
“Remember sixth grade?” Mary asked.
“Uh-huh” Riss replied smiling, eager to hear what she’s about to say to her.
“Well…”
Mary got cutted as the bus stopped in front of them.
Riss sighed as she knew she wouldn’t hear “the story” until they come back or when it’s just the two of them. They climbed into the bus.
“Let’s talk about this later.” Mary said happily, but that was the last thing Riss wanted to hear.
“Okay.” Riss replied, taking a deep breath.
As soon as the bus reached their school, Amarillo High School, they rushed out and ran to their classroom since they had a few seconds before they're officially late. They ran in the empty hall and finally reached their room. They fixed each other, so they wouldn’t get laughed at (‘cause of how they look). They both were still panting. Slowly, Mary opened the door and they hurriedly walked to their seats hoping the teacher wouldn’t see them walk in.
The teacher turned and said, “Miss Wilson? Miss Jones? Could you explain yourselves? Late at the first day of school as a senior?”
They both looked at each other with a worried look on their faces. Mary whispered, “Sorry.” Riss made an okay face and nodded to make Mary know it was fine.
Then they both said to their teacher, “We’re sorry, Mrs. Smith.”, and took their seats.
Mary looked around to see if Andrew was really back from London. There he is, sitting, looking all gorgeous, wearing a plain blue shirt and jeans. She smiled the moment she saw him, but looked away to make no one notice.
Mrs. Smith talked about Geometry. Geometry?! On the first day? Would college be like this..? Like harsh..? Mary thought. Suddenly, Mrs. Smith called out Mary’s name.
“Yes?” Mary questioned.
“Your partner would be Andrew.” She said, then started to call out another name.
Mary looked at Andrew as Andrew did the same. They both thought, partners? partners in what? He smiled at her and she smiled back with a question in her head. Was that smile for me?
