Today was the day. She had been counting down the hours and now it was going to happen. Hannah came and picked her up and took her to a small house where her and her bridesmaids would be getting ready.
Bess, George, Kyler and a few of Nancy's other dearest friends were already in their dresses. Kyler's small baby bump looked adorable in the dress and Nancy couldn't help but smile. Then, she went and got into her dress. Everyone gasped at how pretty she looked and they helped do her hair and make up. She looked stunning.
"Nancy, Ned is going to be one lucky guy." Bess said."Is everything alright?" Kyler asked.
"My mother, I just kind of wished she'd be here with me." Nancy said.
"Nancy, just know your mother is here in spirit. However, if that isn't enough, I have something of hers she wanted you to wear." Moira said.
Moira put a small ivory rose into Nancy's hair. It made her hair look even more titian than it already was and her blue eyes sparkled. Everyone agreed, Nancy was a beautiful bride.
Ned met up with his groomsmen and nervously tied his tie. This was the day. He had been waiting for this day for years. Would Nancy want this life still too? Would they be together forever? All these wedding jitter questions distracted his thinking.
Peter and James reassured him and helped him with some last minute items to put on. They all told Ned stories and congratulated him."It's time to get out there, Ned." his father said.
Ned sighed and followed his father to the ceremony. He felt everyone's eyes on him. He couldn't wait to watch Nancy walk up to him."Nancy? Are you ready?" George asked.
Nancy nodded and walked out with her bridesmaids. Carson found Nancy and hugged her.
"You look so beautiful, Nancy. I'm so proud of you." he said.
"I love you, daddy." Nancy said crying tears of joy.
Carson kissed her forehead and they all lined up. Norman was the ring bearer. Nancy's friend, Hillary's daughter, Violet was one of the flower girls. She pulled Alice and Ned's friend, Chad's daughter in a wagon behind her. The baby girls squealed, entertaining the crowd. Norman kept waving hi to Ned, making him laugh.
Next, the groomsmen and bridesmaids all walked down the aisle. Ned's heart raced, for he knew Nancy was about to make her grand entrance. Everyone stood up and Ned could see the form of his future wife and father in law.
As soon as Nancy came into better view, Ned's heart stopped. She looked like a beautiful angel. Her smile made all his worries go away. Carson handed Nancy over to Ned where she stood in front of him."You look beautiful," he mouthed.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to honor the union of Ned Michael Nickerson and Nancy Sue Drew. If anyone objects to this marriage, please speak now, or forever hold your peace." the preacher said.
Ned and Nancy looked around, but everyone agreed that they were perfect together. Ned let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"If no one objects, let us carry on. Ned, Nancy, it's time to read your vows."
Ned pulled out the small card from his coat pocket and looked at Nancy.
"Nancy, when I first knew I had feelings for you, I made a promise to myself that you'd be the first girl I'd propose to. I kept that promise. There were times I didn't know if I'd get to, but you always came back from the mysteries. Everyday, I find more reasons to love you. You make me a better person and I can't wait to call you my wife. I love you, so, so much." he said.
"Your turn, Nancy." the preacher said.
"Ned Michael Nickerson, today I chose to love you as my faithful partner. You always say I make you a better person, but you Ned have made me a better person. Every time I go on a mystery, I can always Count on your loving smile and comforting voice when I come home. You love me even when I pushed you away, I love you with all of my heart. Ned, I'm ready to become Mrs. Nickerson and start our future together." she said with tears of joy.
" Ned Nickerson, do you take Nancy to be your lawfully wedded wife, through sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?" the preacher asked.
" I do," Ned said without a single hesitation.
" Nancy Drew, do you take Ned to be your lawfully wedded husband, through sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
For a moment, her memories flashed before her eyes. Ned was always there for her, even when she didn't want him there. She really was lucky that Ned stood by her side. Every mystery, every argument, he came back for her.
He easily could've had any other girl. Deirdre liked him, a lot. She always thought Deirdre was a lot prettier than her, but Ned chose her. Ned loved her, even when she didn't love herself."I do." she said looking into his stunning eyes.
"May we see the rings?" the preacher said to Norman.
Ned picked up the ring and slid the ring on her finger. Nancy smiled as Norman handed her the ring with his chunky little fingers. Nancy slid the ring onto Ned's finger, she blushed when she noticed he kept his eyes on her the entire time.
" By the power invested in me, I pronounce you Mr. And Mrs. Ned Nickerson. You may kiss your bride, Ned."
He leaned in, looking at her red lips. This kiss was going to be different than all of their other ones. This one kiss would mark their union. This kiss was their first kiss as Mr. And Mrs. He carressed her cheek then pressed his lips gently to hers.
This kiss was electric. Nancy could feel it from her head to her toes. Any doubt or excuse she could've made about her future was washed away. They reluctantly pulled away.
" Mr. And Mrs. Nickerson, everyone!" the preacher exclaimed.
Everyone clapped and cheered as they laced their fingers together and ran down the aisle. This was the happiest day of their life. They got into their special car and were driven to their reception.
Ned and Nancy cut into their wedding cake and they laughed when baby Alice got the cake all over the high chair. Next, everyone cleared the dance floor and Ned and Nancy got to dance their first dance together as husband and wife.
She nuzzled into Ned's shoulder as they slow danced. Everything was beyond her wildest dreams. Then, a thought came to her."Til death do us part?" Nancy whispered.
" We're infinite, I'll never part you. Even after death. " he whispered.
Finally, Carson and Nancy got to share their dance. The music almost made her cry. It was a song her parents always played when she was little.
"Your mother made me promise we'd dance to this song when it was your wedding day," he said.
"Thanks, daddy." she said.
" You look so beautiful. We love you so much." he told her.
Nancy felt like her mother was there somehow. She was watching her, smiling. She walked over to Ned and hugged him. He hugged her back and kissed her cheek. Tonight was everything to them. Mrs.Nickerson, she liked the sound of that.
