 twenty-seventh chapter

The castle had various rooms and halls. It was a large palace; Louis could run away and still be inside the castle. That wasn't Louis' problem though. Guards were literally everywhere, starting with the one outside his room. His father was stricter than usual. He and the prince didn't talk at all after their argument in the throne room. Louis didn't want to confront him again, because his father was a hard shell to crack. It was like Louis wasn't his son.

Niall was still the prince's pageboy but every time he was inside Louis' room to assist the prince, the guard standing outside would be inside as well. There no chance for Louis and Niall to talk privately about the matter. That didn't stop Louis from trying, though.

"Kind sir, will you please step out for just a moment?" Louis requested.

"I am afraid not, Your Highness." The guard answered, "King's order."

Louis sighed. He would have been more insisting about it but the guard would probably be dubious about it and tell his father. Niall would be in trouble, and Louis couldn't risk that. Niall was doing his job properly and Louis didn't want him in his situation.

"Go, Niall, please." Louis sat on his bed. Niall looked at him one more time with worry before he went out the room, the guard following him. Sometimes the prince went out to wander around the castle, but not without his guard. He still checked on the stables and the farm, but he was no longer allowed anywhere near the sword smiths' hut. His classes with Liam and Zayn were still the same, and Louis' fortunate the guard stayed out of the way with that.

As soon as Louis heard the door shut, he spoke to Liam, "Have you seen Harry?" It's been days and it's torturing the prince. He hadn't seen his love since his father found out and he was desperate to see Harry. A glimpse of him would satisfy the prince for a day.

Liam shuffled the papers, "Have you been doing your assignments lately? Your father has talked to me to give you more for something to--"

"Liam." Louis frowned, "I asked you a question."

"I asked you one, too."

Louis scoffed, "Why are you acting like this? The other day, you were fine with letting me just sit around and relax because of this whole situation."

"It was a tough day for you." Liam deadpanned. It was odd seeing him like this. He was always with his dog eyes and furrowed eyebrows.

"And you think today is not?" Louis raised his tone, but he lowered it immediately, "I have been dying to see Harry these past few days and I just want to know how he is and if he's safe."

Liam clenched his fists and he removed his glasses, "He won't be safe if he was in a situation like this. Neither of you wouldn't be."

Louis gaped at his mentor, his friend. Why was he not supporting him? Or... encouraging him? "What are you even saying, Liam?"

"Your father is cruel, Louis. I know you are aware of that." Liam said. There was suddenly emotion in his eyes, "He would do anything to stop whatever he thinks is wrong and right now, what you and Harry are doing is greatly offending too greatly. If you want Harry safe, you would accept the marriage and be done with it."
