Chapter 4
The walk to the park wasn’t long; it was around ten minutes from home, but these ten minutes felt like an eternity.
My hands were sweaty and my heart was beating faster than usual. Michael had texted me to hang out but I had told him I had a ‘bunch’ of homework for Calculus and that I’d be locked at home. Lies…
The little playground surrounded by trees came into view. This place had become a usual spot in which Alex and I met up. We would take silly pictures and pretend to be kids playing in the playground when we really barely fit through the slides or just sitting on the bench staring out to nature.
I went straight for our usual bench and sat down. The sun had set its last ray upon that bench and I couldn’t help but think how ironic this was. I saw a man figure coming my way and I just wished for the best, it was 7:02pm anyways.
“Skylee” says that voice I came to care about so much. That voice that told me so many secrets, told me jokes, that complimented me no matter how horribly I looked and that told me he’d always be here for me.
“That’s me” I say looking at those blue eyes of his, he walks over and sits next to me. I can feel him looking at me but I refuse to look at him back. “What did you need?”
“Why do you treat me this way?”
“Treat you what way, sweetie? Wait, like poop? Because you, my friend, deserve it.”
“I did nothing to you” he exclaims a little desperate. I keep looking intensely at the swing that is in front of me trying to figure out the right words to say to him.
“Didn’t you hear of the fight…? You probably don’t know that you also told her what I thought of her”
“I heard of it” he says sharply seeming a little uncomfortable.
“I am tired of this, you know. So please tell me what you wanted to tell me and done.” I spit out before regretting coming at all.
“Aeesha wants me to choose.” Alex says and I am just confused… Choose what?
“Choose?”
“Between you and her” he says and he now turns to look at me. “I really care for you Sky” he says taking my hand. “We have been friends for long now and I love you” he looks down. “But I, Aeesha is my girlfriend now, and I have to see what’s best for our relationship”
“So you’re going to choose her”
“Yes”
“Okay, I hope you have a nice life.” I say standing up but he stops me. “What do you want now?” I say angrily at him. I would have never expected my best friend to say this to me, to choose me over someone else. But I guess we were never true friends… I feel so disappointed and betrayed that I could slap him across the face.
“I don’t want you to be mad”
I laugh sarcastically. “Don’t be silly! Why would I be mad at you?” I say and keep walking towards my house. I can’t help but think how this park always brought us closer as friends but has now broken our friendship into a million little pieces that will never be able to be brought together.
“Because I know you”
“I think you never knew me at all, Alex”
