Chapter Five: Decisions
Ash's POV
I followed her down the isle, picking up items I saw fly from her buggy yesterday. Her black hair swished at her back, and I so wanted to run my fingers through it. She seemed totally oblivious to my staring, so I figured I was in the clear. Her cheek had gone down a bit, but I still felt guilty about it. I had to make it up to her. I just had to get her to trust me first.
I stopped when I noticed where we were, my sneakers making a loude squeaky noise on the tile. "Well, look here."
She glanced at me. "What?"
"This spot here is the exact place I ran into your buggy. I can still see the skid marks. And the dent in the shelf. I'm surprised they didn't ban me."
She started giggling, her rosy cheeks turning even more red, and her green eyes sparkled. "Well, you aren't exactly the safest person to be around, if you know what I mean."
"Are you trying to kill my ego? What do you mean?"
"I mean you aren't a safe driver! I saw you turning into the parking lot! You skidded on two wheels! That's exactly why you ran into me: you couldn't properly steer your buggy. You suck at manuevering stuff."
"Hey! That was all Ted. He dared me to get in the buggy and when I did, he started racing it down the isles." He was so going to pay. But then again, he was the reason I met Cassidy. "I couldn't stop!"
"That's what all the guys say."
It took me a minute to understand what she meant...
Then I glared at her, a cute smile forming on her lips.
"What!?"
"Making those little snide remarks! You surprise me every time."
"Well, prepare for more surprises."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
She paused. "That's for me to know and you to find out."
Another puzzle. "So..." I started.
"You only get five questions. Think wisely."
"Five questions? Where'd that come from? I wanna know more than five questions." I complained.
"Whoa! Whoa! Don't go getting your panties in a knot." She blushed. "You can ask me regular questions, but when it comes to my life, only five questions."
"I guess I better think about it," I told her. She snickered.
"Can I ask you a question, then? You never specified on the amount," she asked me.
"Sure."
"Will you go get some ice cream? Preferably chocolate chip cookie dough," she smirked at me.
I couldn't believe it! She had me thinking it was something serious and all she wanted was some food. This girl...
"Of course, milady. Anything else you desire?" I decided to play along.
"How kind of you to ask, sir! I would like a box of Captain Crunch, a gallon of sweet tea, a pouch of pepperonis, cheese sticks, a fruit tray, a dozen eggs, a can of cheesy potato soup, three boxes of flavored rice, Ranch dressing, lasagna, vanilla bean coffee, two chocolate bars, and twelve tv dinners. Make sure they're all different, too. Keith doesn't like repeats."
I never should have asked.
She broke out laughing at my expression and said, "You know I was just joking. I mean, I do need all that stuff, but you don't have to get it right now."
