Alright, the first chapter will be the slowest, as I will explain the very roots of shifter terminology. But hang in there! I  promise it will get good soon.

Remember, this is my first book, so I'll be a tad bit rusty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for taking your time to check out my work! I genuinely hope that you'll stick with me, even if the beginning is slightly educational.

SHOUTOUT to StrawberyZombies228, this author is a large part of why I decided to write in the first place.

THERE ARE FRENCH WORDS IN THESE CHAPTERS. But, I do have the definitions in the 'Author's Note' at the end of the chapter. These are  in italic and/or have are underlined.

WARNING:

THIS CHAPTER WILL PROVIDE A SERIES OF INFORMATION DUMPS! Skim over if you'd like, but you'll want to go back eventually.

The satchel slung over my shoulder repeatedly crashed into my side as my feet pounded  the solid dirt packed  forest floor. It was twilight, the time where the sunset had long finished it's dance, but it's vibrant bursts remained prominent, whispering colorful secrets to the moon. Stars illuminated the canopy of trees above me, casting shadows on the grass ground.

My eyes were alert, constantly going over every minuscule detail I came across. I've been running for hours, periodically switching from my skin to my fur. My legs were beginning to form a steady cramp, resulting in me being forced to call upon my leopard.

"Athena, it's your turn." I sang, earning a lazy groan from the big cat I, involuntarily, share myself with. As a shifter, we are capable of switching species. Very rare weres have the gift of choosing the lifeforms they desire, though most are stuck with fate.

The creatures we carry with us have their own personalities, which in most cases is a pain half the time, and an absolute pleasure the other fifty percent. They speak when they please through mind-link, a telepathic wave that allows us to communicate, and say anything they desire. This is the main cause for "bi-polar" folk's sudden personality change. Our animals provide insight and humor constantly, which typically forces the human part of ourselves to block them out. Their eyes glaze over, creating a cloud like appearance on the outlines of their pupils when they are speaking to their animal. When the magnificent creature is surfacing, their eyes switch colors, and in some cases glow, depending on the kind of 'friend' they carry with them.

"Screw her. If I see a moving object, I'm stopping to kill it." Freya replied for her with a yawn, making sure that everyone knows about her ravenous habits. I swear, the appetite of this cat is beyond comprehendible at points.

I mean seriously, we ate less than two hours ago.

I chuckled and responded, "Oh, please--you love running, Athena. And besides, we all know that you'd much rather interrupt your nap opposed to getting captured by those cabots." I countered with a shake of my head, ignoring Freya's comment.
