In the kitchen, Balthazar was cooking something delicious. Castiel inhaled deeply. He loved his roommate for things of this sort. He was so useful around the house. Stumbling out of bed, Cas wandered into the kitchen, barely remembering to pull on some boxers. He scratched his head sleepily and yawned as he walked in.
“What’s cooking?” he asked, voice slurred with sleep.
“French toast, bacon, eggs and hash browns!” Balthazar exclaimed, handing Cas a steaming plate of food. It looked absolutely delicious, and after living on a diet of cheap ramen noodles and pizza for the past two years, he took a good meal where he could get it. In Cas’s third year of university, he decided to move in with his close friend to save money. Balthazar was filthy rich. His parents were the CEO’s of some really popular fast food chain, so they were always dumping loads of cash in his bank account, for which Castiel was very thankful.
“Mmm” Cas said around a bite of eggs. He closed his eyes as he ate, leaning back and resting his head against the back of the chair. “It’s good.” He mumbled around the food in his mouth.
“Thanks” Balthazar said, accepting the compliment casually. He placed his soiled dishes in the sink, leaving them for the housekeeper, and found his way over to Cas. He wore a devilish smile as he slide in the empty seat across from Cas and his eyes were alight with mischievous interest.
“So, how was it?” Balthazar finally questioned, giving Cas a look that made his cheeks blaze cerise.
Castiel cocked his head with confusion, and squinted his eyes. Did he mean the breakfast? Balthazar clearly noted the oblivious look and let a small snigger escape his lips.
“I mean last night. How was it?” Balthazar asked, still giving Castiel that hard, inquisitive gaze. Cas nearly choked on his food as he gasped at the question. There was no way he was going to talk about his one night stand with Dean… Or anything to do with his love-life at all. He struggled for breath and let out a small, nervous laugh before answering.
“Good.” His voice was squeaking and breaking with stress, which made Balthazar quirk his lips into a smile. He could read Cas like a book. Not that it was all that hard, really.
“Details.” Balthazar insisted.
“Bal, can we not talk about this?” Cas looked down at his almost-empty plate nervously. He hated how shy he was.
“Why? I want to hear about it. You two are cutie patooties.”
“Cutie patooties? Seriously, Bal? What are you, twelve?” Cas snorted as he stood, placing his dishes with the rest in the sink.
“You can’t deny it. It was love at first sight! Ah, the way he looked at you…” Balthazar’s voice had switched from curious to a low sing-song tone. It was like he was in love with the very small possibility that Cas might be crushing on Dean.
“Shut up.” Cas grumbled. “It wasn’t like that. We just had a beer together. That’s all.”
“Yeah, and then you took him home!” Balthazar grinned ridiculously, waggling his eyebrows in his usual fashion at Cas. “Listen, I’m not trying to embarrass you or anything, I’m just happy you’ve found someone.”
“It wasn’t anything serious.” Castiel was grumbling as he strode down from the kitchen and back into his bedroom. Behind him he could hear Bal huff quietly, and mutter something about Dean being “perf”, whatever that meant. Cas rolled his eyes as he slipped into yesterdays jeans, and pulled on his tan overcoat; he always wore it whenever he went out to class or for lunch. He grabbed his cell and wallet from his floor where they had been discarded the night before, and stepped out of the room. The air was stuffier in the living room as he walked towards the door, probably from both his overcoat, and the oven having been on nearly all morning.
