Alex woke up nearly an hour after his brother and Laura had left to find some place to eat. He came down the stairs wearing only black basketball shorts and expecting to find only his twin and Nate in the main level of the house. Is eyes narrowed when he instead found that kid Jesse sitting on the couch with his twin sister.
The couple turned their heads at the sound of creaking stairs. Jesse’s heart sank a little at the sight of Alex stopped dead in his tracks near the landing. He forced a grin.
“Hey, Axie,” Jordyn said casually, flickering through channels while the commercials played. “What’s up?”
“Nothing,” Alex said grudgingly. “What’s he doing here?”
“We’re just hanging out,” Said Jordyn calmly, finally picking a channel and turning to face her brother.”You wanna join us?”
Alex snorted. “Where’s Nate?”
“Out,” Jordyn said, without bothering to explain much.
“Did Mitch call?”
“Think about it, Alex. It was Calvin’s party. I doubt any of the guys will be up until late this afternoon.”
Alex said nothing and continued down the stairs and to the kitchen. Jesse heard the fridge open
“Nate burned the food again,” Jordyn called out.
“Damn,” said Alex. There was a pause. “Did he take his car?”
“Obviously. You know you can’t drive it.”
Alex just cussed again, ignoring the last part of what his sister had said.
“When will he be back?”
“No idea. Soon, probably. He just went out to go eat.”
“Alone?”
“He took Laura.”
“Who’s Laura? I thought he was still talking to Jenna.”
“First off, Laura is eight. She’s Jesse’s sister.”
“That’s gotta be fun,” Alex muttered under his breath. It was Jesse’s turned to look. Alex shot him a death glare like a rabid growling dog, his muscles twitching slightly as he reentered the living room. Jesse stayed seated with his back facing him, still staring at the TV but tensed now. He wasn’t going to let this fourteen year old try to terrify him In fact, he wasn’t even sure what had pissed him off just then. Probably just the fact that Jesse had dared to make a sound.
“Cool it, Axie,” Jordyn warned. “Why don’t you call Kimie or something? We don’t want you in here if you’re gunna be rude.”
“It’s my house,” Alex snapped.
“It’s actually Mitch’shouse. And he wanted you to finish cleaning out the basement.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“You’ve got nothing else to do.”
“At least I’m not out getting pregnant.”
“I’m not out getting pregnant!”
