Two days later the video was complete, edited and ready to be uploaded. Everyone sat around the computer nervously as the video was slowly being processed. Jack kissed me on the top of the head and everyone watched as we saw our crazy, circus filled video be swept off into the Internet. The screen flashed and a window popped up reading, “Upload complete.”
Everyone took a deep breath as I passed around cups of tea. We didn’t speak, silent against our thoughts. We were all just amazed at how it turned out. Three days later we had almost ten million views. Everyone was so excited as the views climbed higher and higher.
Nikki came over one day the next week so we could hang out. It was raining so I grabbed an umbrella before we walked over the café. When we got there I ordered some tea and a couple of ginger biscuits, Nikki had a cappuccino and then a nibbled on a cinnamon bun.
“How’ve you been darling?” she asked sweetly.
“I’m ok.”
“You and Jack have been doing well, huh.” She nodded slightly.
“Yeah we’re great.” I smiled, “I love him Nikki.”
“I know you do, but remember he’s known for being a heartbreaker.”
“I know, but that was in the past. Never mind how’s Finn?”
“How it always is, we still fight a bunch but everything is always resolved in the end”
“Ok babe, then why did you want to talk?”
“Maybe things aren’t that great…” she said with a frown.
She continued on telling me how things had been getting worse, they seemed to be fighting more often and now she just didn’t feel right. Last night they had gotten into a major fight, and then he left the house. But what scared her most is that when he left, she felt relieved, like it was better when he was gone.
At that, she began crying before she realized what she had to do. She was going to break up with him. She let out a massive sigh and then left me alone in the café. I was dumbfounded. They were so cute together. They were perfect. How could that happen? I sat for a long time before leaving the café and walking home.
I opened the door to find Finn sitting on the couch, Jack sitting next to him. They both had solemn looks on their faces.
“Just met with Nikki,” I said looking a bit upset. Finn looked at me, his face a desperate question. “I’m… sorry.” I whispered shaking my head.
Then I walked into the bedroom, took out my laptop and went on tumblr. Even after all these years I still went on, it was just one of those places where you could release everything and just be happy. It was a perfect everything of life and photos, I met so many great people on there. I still remember when Nikki and me were in school and we had our first tumblrs.
At least an hour later Jack came into the room.
“Finn left,” he whispered. “Babe…” I cut off his sentence with a kiss.
“Don’t worry, that will never happen to us.” I said in a smooth, calming voice, “I love you too much.”
“Yeah but what if I screw things up for us?” he moaned.
“You won’t, I know you.”
“But…” I cut him off again my lips colliding with his, yet he still tried to talk though it.
I kissed him harder, and he let it go. We lay there for a while just kissing, before I slowly released from him. I turned around before I laughed a little and then turned towards him. We sat on the bed staring at each other for a while. Our eyes were interlocked and I smiled a little, thinking about how lucky I was. Out of everyone else in the world, he chose me. With all my flaws and frustrations. He chose me, and he loved me. Just like I love him.
“Penny for your thoughts love?” he said cheekily.
“Why did you choose me?” I asked before burying my face into the sheets.
He rubbed the back of my head slowly before whispering “Your perfect babe.”
“No, I’m a mess”
“Isn’t everyone?”
We went silent. Those words were perfect. They filled the room with an endless possibility. I smiled a little and looked over at Jack, who of course had fallen asleep. I wiggled out of bed and went to make dinner.
I made sure the kitchen door was shut before choosing a playlist on my iPhone. It had my favorite songs on it, and even though it wasn’t the best mood of music, I liked it. I decided to make nachos and an hour later they were done. Jack scrambled into the kitchen, and I grabbed him a plate.
As we sat down at the table I reached over and turned the music up. Let Her Go by Passenger was playing and as we ate we swung back and forth to the music. When the next song came on we sang it proudly smiling from ear to ear.
“YEEEAHH IT’S A PARRTY IN THE USA!” Jack screamed as I burst out laughing. “What? You don’t like my singing?” he laughed sarcastically.
“No, I love your singing.”
We continued eating before sliding back into bed and settling down with a few movies. We decided to watch Cheaper By The Dozen, and then Cast Away. While we lay there in bed snuggled in each other’s arms I drifted into a deep sleep.
