<Luna's POV>
Halloween. Possibly the best holiday ever. At least I think so. You get to be one thing for a night and it can be whatever you can imagine.
I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my ripped jeans and tattered shirt. I add just a little more fake blood to my face and hands. I touch up the drawn stitches on my wrist.
As I finish, I look into the mirror. Perfect Zombie costume. I went to do a little something with my auburn hair when I heard my sister Lydia.
"Luna! Hurry or we're gonna be late!" I roll my eyes at my older sister. I love her, but she can be a bit of a busybody sometimes. It's only a party anyway. You can't exactly be five or ten minutes late.
"Hold on Lydia! I'm almost done!" I yell back down the hall. I finish messing with my hair and walk outside to see her standing by the door, wearing probably the most slutty cat costume ever.
"Nice Lydia, showin' off everything you don't have." I spit playfully. She rolls her eyes and opens the door, grabbing her car keys as she heads out.
"At least I'm not showing up in that getup." She points to my clothes. I roll my eyes again. At least I'm not dressed as a slut, I think to myself.
The car ride over to Shane's house was quiet. When we pulled into the driveway, the music was sending vibrations through my chest. All through the yard, trash, clothes, and other assorted things were scattered already. I'm not really excited for this, considering that I'm not popular like Lydia is.
The main reason I'm here is to see Shane. I've known Shane for about three years, and in that time I've noticed he's no longer my friend, but my extreme crush. He has jet black hair that he always crops short, and a sharp chiseled face. He looks best in just a plain t-shirt and jeans. But he only views me as a friend, I think. If he found out and rejected me it would spread like the plague considering how popular he was.
If you didn't know it, you couldn't tell me and Lydia were sisters walking into the door. Her skinny, tall, blonde figure next to my curvy, mid-height, auburn figure. Instantly, about six other girls surround my sister, one pushing me out of the way. I scoff and walk further into the crowd, practically swimming in the smell of alcohol. Drunk girls and guys push past me, occasionally giving me a weird look at my costume. I don't care, it's Halloween.
Finally I see Shane, leaning against one of the tables, talking to what looks like a wasted jock.
"Shane!" I call out. He turns towards his name and waves and smiles at me. I do the same and walk over to him, trying my hardest to cover up my blush.
"Cool party!" I yelled over the music, even though I didn't think so. He leaned against the wall behind him and looked out over the crowd.
"Eh, everyone likes it but they aren't my thing. Too much alcohol. But I love your costume!" He steps back and motions at my homemade Zombie costume.
"Thanks! Can we go outside?" I ask him over the music. He looks around and quickly nods.
We weave our way through the crowd and towards his back door.
When I open the door, my breath catches in my throat. Instead of Shane's normal backyard, there are blankets on the ground and a few wooden tables. The only light is the moon. The dark woods surround the little hideaway. I smile at him and make my way towards the table farthest away from the house. I sink onto the wooden surface, cool from the chilly autumn night.
I look up at the nearly Full Moon as Shane sits down. He seems to be as glad as I am to be out of the hot air and into the cool night.
I'm surprised no one else is around. This is usually the type of place where drunk couples make out and snogg. I don't think much about it, because Shane finally speaks, breaking the beautiful silence.
