The zipping of book bags and the shuffling of papers commenced as the bell rang. You were not going to waste time small talking with acquaintances. You felt relief wash over your skin as you thought about the school day ending.

As you exited the school building you received a phone call. It was Jun, you hesitantly answered the phone. When it came to him, your nerves always got the best of you.

"Can I come over?" He asked sounding tired. "Uh, well I'm not home yet but I guess." You agreed as you began walking home. "I'll wait for you then." He said, giving the impression that he was already there. As your best friend he invited himself over., often

Recently, you haven't been too fond of his company. All he wanted to talk about was "her". His new girlfriend was the center of his attention, as she should be. It was just extremely hard seeing your crush fall for someone else. In an ideal world, you would be the one he's head over heels for. It was not painful seeing him happy, it's just hard not being the initial cause for it.

You walked home with no motivation. As your mind ran over the idea of hearing him boast about her, you slowed down. It wasn't fair, you thought it was obvious. You liked him, you loved him. It was simple to remember the ear to ear smile he displayed when he told you the big news.

You thought it'd be that he liked you. You thought things would work out, as they never do.

The autumn leaves crunched slowly as you made your way to the porch of your home. Jun was visible, he sat on the steps with his face buried in his hands. You dismissed the battle in your mind as you took a step closer to his sulking body.

"Hey." Your voice cracked slightly. He looked up at you to reveal his red and watery eyes. "H-hey." He mumbled back. Your eyes immediately widened as you flew forward. "What happened?" You were now on eye level with him.

Jun opened his mouth to speak. He shook his head as he let tears drop from his eyes. No words came out.

As you made your way up the steps he followed you. You tried your best not to break. There weren't many things that made him cry. You instantly gained knowledge of the cause of his distress. He allowed you to open the front door before wiping his eyes.

You stood silently, waiting for him to enter your house. As soon as he passed the threshold, Jun plopped down on the couch. "She ...broke up with me." between sniffs he spoke softly. "I know." You shook your head as you shut the door.

Silence provided you more time for thoughts. It took you a while to sit next to him, but when you did he instantly leaned into you. You rapped an arm around him and he began to cry. "How did you know?" He asked lowly.

"She's all you talk about. Nobody else affects your mood the way that girl does." You thought the answer was logical. "It's just that I could do so much better." You mumbled as you let your hand brush his arm. Then you realized how angry and jealous you sounded.

If he didn't know before, he knew now. The bridges of your eyes held back the strongest river. "I just don't know what you want. So I don't know who to be." You allowed a tear to roll down your cheek.

His body became absent. He was no longer leaning on you for comfort. You looked ahead as your sorrowful words registered in Jun's mind.

You bit your bottom lip as your body became warm with embarrassment. A hand caressed your thigh. Warm tears continued to flee. "She broke up with me because I talk about you too much." He admitted as his breath became heavy.

You turned to face him as he moved his hand to lightly squeeze your arm. "It took me forever to come to terms with the fact that I'm in love with my best friend." His eyes traveled your sorrowful visage.

"She thought I cheated." He chuckled to himself. You were still unresponsive. He did everything he could to get you to talk. You didn't know how to feel. You were overly bothered by the idea that he paid you more attention when he wasn't with you. It made you feel foolish.

You parted your lips in an attempt to speak. He cupped your face delicately. He slid his thumb across your bottom lip, causing your breathing to become unsteady. Additional warmth became present as he brought his face closer to yours.

His nose nudged yours as the space between your lips disappeared. Your eyes shut as you became cognizant of the present. You gave permission for him to continue as you began to kiss back. The sounds that escaped your bodies were nearly inaudible.

Jun's lips danced upon yours with determination. Whether it be to prove the truth of his word or to show his yearning for some type of intimacy between you two. He slowly pulled away, admiring the vulnerability your face displayed. "I'm sorry." His breath hit your lips as he spoke.
