POV Dakota:
I drove myself to the airport. I said fair well to the sun and sandy beaches as I briskly made my way past the only place I've ever known. I blasted the AC yet I could not escape the hot Hawaiian sun. I would miss Maui but I knew I had to leave. Even if my mother didn't understand. I knew it was the only option for me now.
The plane ride was long. It gave me time alone with my thoughts which wasn't really something I wanted. My mind kept making excuses for why I never should have left. Yet, I knew all my decisions were made for the better of everyone. Especially my parents. They gave me a chance. A chance I never deserved. By leaving I was giving them a chance. A chance to be safe. And for now that's all I could give them.
