The One
CHAPTER 1
The same dream night after night. I fear it won't ever stop. The sweat dripping from my neck making my trembling skin stick to my thin night clothes. I have this same reoccurring dream over a thousand times and yet I'm not anywhere closer to finding any answers. I turn my head to where my dark brown night stand lies and I check my alarm clock. 6:15 the clock read. At least this time I have woken at a decent time. I guess it's time for school.
Unlike most sixteen year olds I don't hate school. It isn't as bad as the same nightmares every night.
**** I'm standing in a dark alley way. The smell of the air, foul. My lungs begin to constrict and I fall to the floor. I try to scream but I can't get any air into my lungs. As I see the world in front of me start to vanish the pain stops. And finally I can stand and breathe. I walk forward out of the damaged and broken alley way, into the street. As I reach the side walk I see the most horrifying sight. The farthest thing from a beautiful view. The air above me filled with smog. So polluted it is a stretch to even call it air. The ground I walk on is cracked and brittle. Everything in front me is dead. ***
I try to make sense of it all but I can't. Nor do I have the time to pick apart my dreams. Mr.Ghillhane stands in front of the smart board, struggling to find the right tools. Like in most high schools you have the weirdos that sit in the back right corner of the class and the teachers pets that sit in the front, the populars that sit in the back left corner and the normal kids like me that sit in the middle.
"Alright class can someone tell me who Simon symbolizes in this chapter of The Lord of the Flies?" Mr.Ghillhane asked to a half-brain dead class. He scans the room with his pale grey eyes, looking for the least willing victim to spring his impossible questions on.
"Mr.William Sanders , can you tell me the symbolism ?" He knew very well that Will didn't know the answer. He was on the football team, the basketball team, and the lacrosse team, lets just say if each sport was a girl he would get around. In alot of girls eyes he was hot. But in my eyes he was perfect. With his beautiful light brown skin and his short chestnut brown hair. His eyes were a dazzling emerald green and his jaw looked like it was carved by Michael Angelo himself. Now don't get me wrong, yes he was a jock but he wasn't a dumb jock.
"Uh, Simon was ....umm like a Christ figure, he was misunderstood and the others boys fears of this so called monster drove them to kill Simon. " William spoke up. The whole class turned to look at him, they were as stunned as I was.
"Very good, William." Mr.Ghillhane said actually proud. The rest of the class was uneventful, I just stared at the clock hoping that time would speed up.
Five minutes went by, but on the clock it said 15 mins had gone by. Finally the bell rang and this class was over. Everyone got up out of their desks moving at an extraordinarily fast pace. I started to get dizzy, and almost faint. The walls and floors turned into liquid matter, everything started to disappear into this whirling hole and I was sucked into the middle of it.
Colours of blue and purple danced around me in strands. My hands and feet were numb, my voice paralyzed. I couldn't comprehend what was happening to me, all the colours , numbness in my hands and feet. I couldn't talk or scream. It was all to much. I blacked out.
When I awoke I was in the same alley I had been in, in my dream. But this time it was daylight. I got up with a pounding headache and was shocked at the scenery in front of me. Although I shouldn't have been shocked. This after all was my dream, there was something different this time. Something too real about this place.
Everything in front of me was either black or grey. Covered in ash from a horrendous fire or all black from smog. The city I looked out at wasn't Earth. I mean how could it be? The buildings were torn down, the roads cracked and disoriented. Not a single person was insight. The air choked me every time I took a breath. I just wanted to wake up. I must've fallen asleep during Mr.Ghillane's class.
I closed my eyes then opened them hoping to see the dull classroom I was previously in. But no such luck. This was one nightmare I wasn't going to wake up from.
