The One
CHAPTER 3
"So where exactly am I ?" I screamed to whomever was listening. Once we got to safety behind some broken down buildings and a horrid smelling dumpster, I demanded they tell me what's going on. I remember when I was at the loft, I saw lots of devices that had different buttons and codes that I have never seen before. Obtuse shapes and sizes.
"You're in New York, can't you tell?" Jasper said looking around.
"Obviously this isn't New York. I live in New York, it looks nothing like this. " I retorted.
"You don't know ..."
"Know what ? About Esta - Estel or whatever " I said now really confused.
" Estel, yea they did this."
"What year is this ?"
"2067." Finn spoke up.
"What ?! 2067? I time travelled to 2067?" I realized what I said when it was way too late.
"You what?" Finn asked.
"Good job, Finn. Leave it you to pick up a loonie. " Jasper snorted.
"Hey! I am not crazy, I can really travel through time !" I couldn't take the judgemental stares any more. I ran the first chance I got.
I walked down the torn and broken street looking at the cracked windows and depressed side walks. I wondered what Estel, whoever or whatever the hell they/it could've done to make this city become the way it is now. I continued to walk when I realized I had no destination. I had no phone, no home and I walked away from the only people that were willing to help me. I couldn't walk anymore, I sat on the curb of a sidewalk. While I was resting I saw a light. I was getting ready to run when I saw it because I thought it was a cop but it was coming from a tall building at the end of the street. In fact it was the only building still standing. I walked toward it hoping to find someone to help me. As I got closer a chill went down my spine. A cold feeling, something wet and dark creeped into my soul. I wanted to stop walking but I couldn't. This same dark force was pulling me. Dragging me. Calling me to go toward it. Once I got to the door, I knew that this force that was beckoning me was evil. Pure evil. I couldn't take it anymore. There was a pounding in my head. I closed my eyes and tried to grip on to something, anything that would tether me to this world. I knew it was coming I was going to travel through time once more. And with one swift push of an unknown force, I was spinning through the tangles of blues and purples and once again through the vortex of time.
**** I'm standing in a hallway with purple and gold wallpaper and a red carpet with golden edges. In front of me there is a large brown door made of some kind of unknown alloy. I walk toward the door that is cracked open just enough for me to see the 6 people standing in a circle in the middle of the room. I can't quite tell what's in the centre of the circle but I start to hear something. Some kind of crying. Then I see it. A woman lying on a marble slab in the centre of the circle her chest cut open. Exposing the place where her heart used to be. My stomach starts to turn and I don't understand what is going on. How is she still living? Where is her heart ? My questions were quickly answered - at least one of them was. Her heart was in the hand of one of the men wearing black robes. Which covered their heads. Their backs turned to me. The one that had the heart in his hand put it up to his face, what he did to it I couldn't see. Nor did I want to. After he was done he passed the heart to next person in the robe, this one I could see. He put the heart up to his face and took a bite out of it. I gasped at the sight. Something I shouldn't have done because they heard me. And in unison they turned towards me. The one holding the heart dropped it. They came after me, as if they were out for blood. Which wasn't that hard to believe after what I had witnessed. I needed to get out, before I became din- actually desert. I closed my eyes praying that my power would somehow work. But no such luck ! I backed away from the door slowly. Then I broke into a run as they got closer and closer. What made it worse was that they were completely silent. And once they were close enough to me, I could smell them. It was the smell of rotting flesh and death. And once again I could feel that same feeling of cold, wet, darkness. I couldn't stand anymore. My legs gave out and everything went black. ****
