The One

CHAPTER 2

They always say the future is what we look forward to but were I went, you'll want to stay in the present . My name is Katherine Swan I am 16 years old. My ability is something that of phenomena. It all started with a couple of blackouts, each time I had a deep thought of wanting to be in one place in time and ending up there. But something always ended up happening where I would wake up and not remember anything.

My family, well some of my relatives had the same things occur. Many generations ago.It was hard for me to excel into my life of power.In my head it was a weapon of mass destruction, one that was very dormant. Sadly it seems that this power was destined to do something great. And with it I had to give up my normal life. Within in this gift lied a curse.

My great grandmother, Mary Swan also had this ability. The way my grandmother described her mothers ability. It didn't sound like a gift at all. She would get terrible headaches and the black outs only lessened by a few after she learned to control her power. Eventually she got sick, a brain tumor and she died a month later. When my grandma told me this story I could see the hurt underneath her wrinkled eyes. Her eyes looked as though they had seen great hardship, and pain. That's how I knew I could not tell her about my 'gift' not her or anybody else. I feared that the only person that could understand what I was going through died years ago. Telling my mother about this gift, not only mine but grandmothers as well would make her lose her mind . I knew I couldn't tell her because everyone with this so called gifted had died. And I didn't know what to think when I discovered this new part of my life. Which didn't only affect me but also anyone in my world. Aside from being able to jump from time to time, my future held pain and death. Great future to look forward to 'huh. The same question to go through my mind was what will happen to my kids? Or my kids, kids ? Will I even live long enough to have children? All these questions with no answers.

I woke up my face on the cold cracked pavement. I felt the same choking feeling in my lungs and right then I knew where I was. I lifted my head and glanced around me. This place, from my dream. There is no use in trying to wake my self up because part of me knows that this isn't a dream. It is reality. My reality.

But unlike before I saw a tall man look down at me on the floor.

"Hey, where am I ?" I ask the tall figure. He didn't reply he just looked at me once more and ran off. I couldn't distinguish any of his facial features, I was still dizzy and seeing double but his body was a nice build. I pulled myself up and tried to run after him but I kept tripping over the wreckage and rubble. Multiple times I asked myself what happened here? Just as I was about to give up the man stopped and walked back over to me. He put out his hand to me. I hesitated to take it but I decided what could the harm be in it. After he pulled me up he said to me in a sweet British accent "What the bloody hell are you doing here ? Are you mad?"

"Me? I just came here out of nowhere. I was trying to find someone to help me and you just ran off."

"Well, you look to be off your rocker. Your obviously not from 'round here are you?"

"Really ? What would give you that idea the fact that I just told you or the fact that you found me lying on the cold HARD GROUND!"

"You seem awfully distraught. Come with me love. And we'll figure it out. " Part of me said it was a crazy idea to go with him but there something about his beautiful brown eyes that drew me in.

"Well come on now. It's almost dark. " he said to me once again extending his hand.

"What happens when it gets dark? "I asked.

"Let's just say you don't want to know. " at first when he said it, it seemed more like a joke but when I looked at his face I could see there was a hint of fear.

"I'm Finn by the way Finn-" he was about to tell me his last name when another man who looked remarkably similar jumped in front of us and swung his arm around me.

"What'd I miss brother?" The other one said.

"Not much." Finn said to his - brother I think.

"Well aren't you going to introduce me to this fit lady here. " the identical one said.

"Uh I hadn't had time to catch your name. " Finn said looking at me with a hint of guilt and annoyance, which I believe was directed at his brother.

"My name is Katherine."

"Lovely name love..... Say your not from 'round here. I'm Jasper. " Jasper extended his hand to me and out of courtesy ... I guess. I shook his hand too.

Finn lead me to an old brown sofa in a broken down ware house , Jasper followed. "So explain to me why you were lying on the cold hard ground." he said with a questionable look on his face. I hesitated to answer the question worrying about what might they think . If I told the truth would they think that I was insane. I lied right through my teeth hoping they wouldn't catch it.

" I don't really know I woke up on the ground. I have no memory of anything that happened before that." Jasper stared at me with a curious expression like he knew I was not telling the truth. Finn stood up and took my hand and made a signal to follow him

"I'll show you around maybe you will start to remember something." We just walked in awkward silence. As we walked I could see there was more and more wreckage. It seemed to go on for miles. When we passed a small little house, with what looked like brown siding and what was left of a red door, I could see that Finn wanted to pass it very quickly.

"What's wrong? Was this your -" I asked Finn when I was cut off.

"It's nothing don't worry about it. I barely know you I'm not going to go and tell you my life story."

"Well whatever it is I'm sorry. This place looks like a bomb went through it. What happened here?"

"It wasn't a bomb it was something much worse. Believe me."

"I do believe you. And what happened to all the people ?"

"They're gone. All gone. When the 'incident' happened a lot people .... Well they died. And those who didn't die, like me and Jasper have no way of leaving this place. We're trapped here by Estel-" he stopped dead in his tracks and looked at something in front of us. Jasper was looking that way as well.

"What's going on?" I asked panicked.

"They'll lock us away." Finn said.

"They'll put us in a jail sell." Jasper added.

Five police man started to chase after us.

"Hey ! You nobody out pass ten. Hey get back here !!" The police men shouted after us. So we started to run.

"What do you mean 'no one out pass ten!'." I screamed.

Jasper started to explain " No persons as they say are allowed to be out pass ten," I was furious "THEN WHY ARE WE OUT HERE!".

"I wanted to show you around." Finn said innocently.

"That couldn't wait til, I don't know morning." I shouted back to him, almost out of breath.

"Hang a left down this alley." Jasper said. And in unison we all turned left into the alley. Unfortunately me and Finn were too much in unison and we crashed into each other. Banging our noses together. Landing on top of one another in a heap.

"Well this isn't awkward." Jasper said looking down at us on the ground.

"Um Katherine..."

"Yea, " I said still on top of Finn.

"You wanna get off me now. Or are we just gonna stay this way?" Finn said with a smile.

"Ohmigod I'm sorry. " I said embarrassed. I quickly got off him and extended my hand to help him up. What an adventure today has turned out to be.
