'Well, nothing's gonna hurt me with my eyes shut ' ~ Eyes Shut by Years & Years

"Now let's move onto a different and certainly more interesting topic." His speckled blue and orange orbs glistened mischievously and not just because of the various lights that were positioned around the moody-blue painted room. "Roberts, no further evidence has been found or examined recently, is that correct? Well, 'Detective Roberts', you and your little dependable team need to get a move on; we are vastly running out of time."

A barely visible, annoyed eye roll was just missed as he visibly stiffened on his rough seat and forcefully answered, "Yes sir, I understand. However, we are doing what we can."

"I realise this and have accounted it towards my end decision. You are dismissed." With a minute glamourous wave of his hand he dismissed from the catch-up conference.

Sharply fired questions and answers filled his vulnerable ears, the intruding clamour being too much pressure to handle.

"Okay! Quiet please everyone! This is ridiculous." He muttered under his breath whilst shaking from how swarmed the area was. "I have been thinking of various ways to approach this. Now, first of all, I need Penski to come with me, I have a task for you," he formally excused himself and left the room with Archie hot on his tail.

"Archie, I am trusting you to do this properly. We should have done this a long time ago; hell, it's been 3 weeks already. So enough of this spreading stupidity, we are going to do things right. Now this is what you will do..." Alan explained the task cautiously. No, it wasn't a hard task; it was quite simple. It was just the people he would be dealing with.

"Detective, I doubt this will change anything. I don't wish to be impolite but it will probably make things worse." A few more words danced to and fro in the freshened air until Archie was certain of what he needed to do.

"Take this with you, and when they start balling politely excuse yourself and leave as hastily as you can manage." Archie couldn't help but chuckle at the serious tone, Detective Roberts was taking this case more seriously than any other before. Only because he knows he is failing his conscience reminded. He accepted the handed clipboard and left the room without a further discussion.

Half an hour later he was perched quite stiffly on a flowery, delicate antique-life sofa whilst sipping on a hot chocolate; no matter what age, he would always love them. Sitting opposite him were two frozen skeletons, each accompanied by their own cups of steaming hot tea. Both had blinded by the one they loved and now were paying the consequence for loving him so dearly.

"Mr and Mrs Earl, I must thank you once again for letting me into your home. It must be a hard period in time, I completely understand." He was impressed in a way; most couples who lost their kid, or kids, due to some unknown reason, divorced, turned to drugs and alcohol for comfort, or cheated on their spouse – which then most likely led to divorce. It was an ongoing chain. Even though they were less productive than a fork during a round of pizza, it was nice to finally see a couple who stand by each other.

"It's fine, we haven't had a visitor in weeks; except for the indecorous man who comes to talk about rent. Some new company is nice every now and then." A hoarse whisper echoed, emitting from Thomas Earl. Archie peered into his dull orbs, instantly noticing the soulless and empty darkness hidden behind them.

"I have a few further questions for you, all of them contradicting to the ones we asked you at the start."

Rosa stood up swiftly, her following footsteps being left behind to trail after her. Cold air rushed passed them, intoxicating the awkward atmosphere. Thomas simply stared at the door, as if her presence hadn't just left them. Even though he knew why she had done it, Archie couldn't help but feel a bit offended; it was a rude gesture.
