Justin wanted to call the police, I didn’t want to involve the law with this but after Justin convinced me that my “Fake Father” could be stalking me I agreed. The Ann Arbor police was at the hotel within twenty minutes, I was sitting on the bed wringing my hands. Two big hands on both of mine made me gasp and look up, Justin’s face was calm and reassuring “it’s going to be okay, we’ll stop him before he hurts you.” he said, I looked away and stopped wringing my hands.

“Or anyone else.” I added.

“What?” Justin asked, I looked into his eyes again and explained.

“When my ‘fake father’ can’t find me or can’t hurt me he hurts someone else, someone I love the most.” I said, I heard a growl come from Justin’s chest.

“You mean, he’s did this before?”

“More times than I care to remember.” I whispered, the police came into the room then. They asked their usual questions: “Who are you?” “What’s the problem?” “Who is the person who wants to hurt you?” “Why does he want to hurt you?” ect. ect. Once it was all over it was nearly dawn, I came back into the bedroom, from escorting the two police officers out, yawning. Justin grabbed me in a hug and gave me an extra squeeze.

“Try to get some sleep sis, your tournament’s practice is at noon.” He said, I pulled back and looked at him.

“Hey, how’d you know that? No let me guess, Brother Intuition?” I asked, Justin smiled but shook his head.

“Nope, Alexis told me. See ya later Ash, you need to get some sleep.” He said, I smiled and went to the bed; I flopped down falling asleep as soon as I hit the mattress.

At the Tournament…

“Good afternoon folks, here we are once again with the Ann Arbor Bulldogs vs. the Hillsdale Hornets. Who will win this time…” the announcer was going on and on but I ignored him, I needed to stay focused. But I looked across the room and saw Lexy standing there with Justin, Chaz, Christain, and Ryan. I saw two older adults standing with them as well, they were either one of Justin friend’s parents or they were Mom and Dad. I saw Lexy holding a poster in yellow and blue paint that said GO HORNETS! FEAR THE STING! In her neat handwriting. Then I saw Justin and his friends holding a long poster that said GO ASHLEY! ASHLEY! ASHLEY!I was smiling but snapped my head when I heard the Coach bark at me.

“Valdez! Get your head in the game!”

“Yes, sir.”

“Alright guys, we all know the plays right?” Everyone nodded. “Good, we know these guys, we know what we’re up against. We know how they play and how they work, dirty. What did I tell you guys about this?”

“Spray them with Axe so we’re the ones playing it dirty to the max.” We all recited.

“Good, now let’s get out there and make those Ann Arbor Bulldogs go running with their tails between their legs! Hornets on three, ready? One, two, three Hornets!” We shouted. But with the noise level in the gym we weren’t that loud, Coach had walked away to talk to the referee and the other coach. A few minutes later Coach looked at me then he jerked his head towards the boxing ring, I nodded understanding; I was up first, I took a deep breath and walked into the ring.

An hour and a half later all my team mates were whooping and laughing as double K and double C lifted me onto their shoulders; everyone, even some of the audience, were chanting. “Valdez, Valdez, Valdez!” I had scored our final point and won the tournament with 33 to 26.

“Okay guys, you can put me down now.” I said, Kody and Charlie set me down gently. Coach Kwan had us gather around for a picture with the trophy, afterwards he held it out to me.
