Prolouge
“Brie, could you get the door?” Mom asked, she was in the bedroom with her stupid boyfriend Joey Smith; probably getting ready to have sex or something. I sighed and heaved myself up from the couch watching Justin Bieber’s Tour: All around the World; I opened the door and flinched.
“Can I help you with directions or something?” I asked, Justin Bieber smiled and shook his head. ‘Oh my gosh! Justin Bieber is standing in front of me! Major happy moment!’ I thought to myself.
“I’ve been waiting for this for eight years, and now it’s finally here.” He said his eyes got watery but he held back the tears threatening to spill over; I narrowed my eyes and looked at him skeptically.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, Justin turned around and gestured to someone; after a moment I saw it was Kenny his bodyguard. A moment later Justin was holding a folder “what do you want?” I asked, my patience was running thin now; I didn’t care if he was a celebrity or my ex-boyfriend.
“For you to come home.” Justin said, I looked at him confused.
“I am home.” I said.
“I mean your actual home, back in North Dakota.” He said, I looked back and forth; confused, then I narrowed my eyes to slits. Was he bluffing me? What the hell was this Howie Do It?
“What are you talking about?” I asked, Justin took a deep breath and blurted it all out.
“You’re my sister, I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. My mom, our mom, got in a car crash. She had to have surgery that surgery stopped her from giving birth but she wanted another child so she got a sergeant mother to have you. We’re still talking to Jennie.
“But after only a month the sergeant mother took you away, she heard rumors that we’re using and selling drugs or something. I don’t know, but on her way back you got abducted. I only found out when I was ten and ever since then any time I could spare was spent with mom and Jennie on tracking down the baby and the men who took her. And well here I am.” He said, I raised my eyebrows and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Prove it.” I said, not believing a word he said.
“I’m sorry?” Justin asked, I rolled my eyes and looked at his confused look.
“If I’m your actual sister then prove it.” I said, Justin handed me the folder; I sighed and opened it.
“What is this? I don’t even know what I’m looking at.” I complained, Justin came up on the top step and pointed to a red jagged line.
“This is mom’s blood testing, and then this is dad’s.” He pointed to a black jagged line “and you.” He said, pointing to a green jagged line; I looked at him still confused.
“I still don’t get.” I said, Justin sighed and seemed to be getting frustrated.
“If you look closely at the lines.” He said, I looked down and furrowed my brow; all of the lines were similar, I closed the folder and shoved it at Justin.
“I’m calling my lawyer.” I announced, I backed up a step and Justin took a step forward.
“It won’t do you any good, once they see our evidence they’ll rule in our favor then you’ll be coming home.” He said, he smiled as I went inside and slammed the door in his face.
“Who was that?” Mom asked, she came into the kitchen with her robe on; I turned the T.V. off and went to my room.
“Nobody.” I called over my shoulder; I went to my desk and pulled out the social worker’s card the social worker gave to me a few weeks ago after he found out about what was happening to me. “Come on, come on pick up, pick up.” I said to myself, it rang four times before Dave picked up.
“Hello?” He said, his voice sounded fuzzy; like he just woke up or something.
“Hi, Dave?” I asked.
“Yeah?”
“This is Brieanna, Brieanna Valdez?” I said, there was some wrestling on the other end, he murmured something to someone then a door closed.
“Brieanna? Are you okay?” He asked, I sighed and cut to the chase.
“I need a lawyer, pronto.”
