Mason

comments make me smile*My eyelids fluttered open as I heard banging coming from the bathroom. I whined but threw the covers off of my body to reveal my shorts and sweatshirt that I decided to wear as pyjamas. I stomped my way towards the bathroom, not bothering to check myself in the mirror.
"Dad, do you have to be fixing the house so early in the morning," I whine.
"Didn't mean to wake you up so early, babe," a male voice says.
Hold up.
I turn around to face Mason and scowl. "What are you doing in my house, banging on my walls in the morning while I'm trying to sleep," I ponder, trying my best not to yell.
He frowned then pulled my lips upward making a smile with his warm hands. "Ha," he smiles, "that's better." I slap his hands off of my face, giving him a are-you-mentally-challenged look. "Can I know what you're doing," I say, slightly amused and half annoyed.
"Lacey, him and his father are helping me fix some areas of the house," my dad says, walking through the hall. I give a quick glance at Mason then go back to talking to my father. "Do you not see the size of this house? Why would you even go buy a house that needs fixing," I asked my dad, wondering if he had any common sense.
"You know what, never mind. I'm going back to bed, please don't make too much noise," I say, stomping my way back to my room. "I'm sorry, she's really cranky when she wakes up," I hear my dad whisper to Mason. "I can hear you," I shout, desperate for sleep. "Yeah, I can see that," Mason tells my dad purposely loud.
. . .
A few hours later, I woke up on my own to the smell of my mom's cooking. "Food," I yelled, rushing downstairs famished.
I sat down at my usual spot and dug into my favourite food; pasta. I shoved some spaghetti in my mouth and swallowed and looked around, happy that Mason was gone.
Suddenly the front door swinged open, "We're back!" Mason and his father came into the room happy to see that the food was prepared and ready to eat- or devour the food by the way they were looking at it. I slumped down in my chair, embarrassed to have been almost caught eating like that. I started pouring mountains of cheese on top of the food as the two new guests took a seat at the table.
"We decided to invite them over to eat with us as thanks for helping us with the house," my mom said cheerily. "Yep, so this is Nick," my dad said, motioning to Mason's father with his hand.
I smiled and waved awkwardly, what am I supposed to say? I'm not good at meeting new people because I get so nervous but once I know the person, they'll meet the real, crazy me.
"Hi, thanks for helping my dad," I tell him, cringing at how weird I thought I sounded. Mason gave me a confused glance but shrugged it off and turned his attention back toward the food in front of him. Nick didn't seem to mind seeing as he smiled back and told us how it was no problem and he enjoyed to help us as we are his new neighbours.
I took the fork up to my mouth, excited to begin to eat again as my dad decided it was so important to speak again. "Then, this is Nick's son, Mason."
"Yeah, I know," I said and turned my focus back towards the food.
"Wait, how do you know," my dad questioned.
Oh my god, all I want is to eat!
"I met him at school," I said while twisted the spaghetti on a spoon and putting it in my mouth, desperate to finally eat without being disturbed.
