ERINI slammed the door shut, sliding the bolt home. The force of it sent the pots in the cupboards rattling. I slid the palm of my clammy hand down my face, this whole event was making me very stressed.
I lifted my shaky hands through my hair, raking them down the entire length of it. I started up the stairs and began to peel my sweaty clothes off my gross body, preparing to go in the shower.
______________Stepping into the shower heads steady stream I scrubbed the clinging dirt and filth off my body. The hot droplets pounded on my back, soothing my tired muscles.
The shower took my mind off the rambunctious events that had occurred throughout the night.
Bubbles and foam ran down the contours of my body, I wasn't curvy, or thick thigh-ed. I was skinny, and tall. I was the least bit threatening looking but I was stronger than my physique suggested.
But I was also alone, I had no friends, and my family was now gone, my parents were the only ones left, but they be damned. They had never cared, but no one ever had, nothing about me made me stick out in the likes of social media. And walking out in public I was ignored, invisible as it were.
I was just extremely extra-ordinary making me unwanted, and unnecessary in the necessities of other peoples lives.
I stepped out of he shower, my hair hanging in sodden blue strands which clung to my formless body. I scrubbed the droplets of with a towel, turning my pale, translucent skin red. I shrugged on my flannel pajamas and head out to my bed, ready to forget about this terrible evening in dreamland.
I slipped off into my dream state almost immediately, getting comfy and closing my eyes. I relished in the safety in my cozy, twin sized bed.
____________________I stretched in the morning. It seemed I did it as unattractively as I could. I stumbled down the stairs, drowsily still being half asleep I started to brew some coffee.
Bacon sizzled in a pan as I began to shuffle the eggs around to prevent them from sticking. This was my usual morning routine, the same ongoing cycle for my mornings every damned day. This was just another reason as to why my existence was such a small, unnoticeable one.
A beating on the door fractured my thoughts. I turned off the burner on my gas stove and went to answer the unrelenting person at the other side of the door.
The open door revealed a guy, only around twenty-one or so, with floppy brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Perfect tan skin and a strong looking body screamed athlete.
"Hello?" I said, faking a questioning glance, I really just wanted to study his toned body.
"Hi, mind if I come in? I smelled the food," he gestured to the open window, "and I've been walking all night, I'm starved." he finished his speech with a somewhat flirtatious smile.
I shook my head, I kept getting distracted by those muscles...focus, or are you not able to make a normal conversation? I thought. "Yes, yes come in, I was just finishing the eggs." I hiked my thumb behind me and began making my way back to the kitchen. I internally face palmed, way to make it awkward!
I heard footsteps following behind me, after the door was silently closed shut. I might be crazy for inviting a stranger into my house after almost getting raped, but the rapist is dead now. I needn't worry about that anymore. And I wasn't gonna act like some damsel in distress.
I hopped into the kitchen and turned the burner back on to warm up the cold food. I gestured to a chair; "Take a seat, I just have to heat this up." I heard the chair screech back and a heavy sigh as he plopped down.
"What's your name?" He asked, breaking the heavy tension surrounding the room.
"Erin. Why were you out so early in the morning?" I began to 'investigate'.
"Oh, I was just taking a walk, and got hungry, so I came here because I smelled
The food." He had a deep voice, and he spoke in smooth, confident tones. I nodded and turned back to the burners. I dumped half of the eggs on my plate and the other half on his plate. Adding bacon and sausages I gripped both plate and placed both of them on the table. He ate hungrily, gobbling up any piece of food that fell out of his mouth. I slowly ate mine, watching him eat in awe. He had finished his plate in under ten minutes, eating every morsel on the plate. I looked down at mine seeing I still had about half. I giggled in amusement as he looked up sheepishly. He cheekily pointed to my plate, I just wordlessly handed it over. That's not how I'd act if I was in some strangers house.
He got up and began to wash the plates and pans. At least he's doing that. I got up to help him, taking up the washing as he dried. I had finished everything but the pan that I had used to cook the eggs. I gave it a final rinse before handing it over to...The man and wrung my hands on the washcloth.
"So what's your name?" I inquired.
"Jeremiah." He almost whispered from behind me. I laughed. This whole encounter was quite...Weird. I kept gazing out the widow, the view led to the woods, and through the open screen I heard birds chirping and flitting around the trees, increasing the amount of dad leaves on the ground.
I began to turn around, "Why are you whispering..." I trailed off, he stood behind me, the pan raised as a weapon. My hands flung up to protect my head to late, the pan curved and hit my head with a painful bang. I collapsed to the floor, clutching my bleeding head. I saw The Man duck down and pick me up, cradling me so gently against his chest. My eye lids flickered shut, and darkness eloped me.
But not before I heard a sullen whisper,
"I'm so sorry."
