ERIN
I woke up in the same bed as before, my scent starting to infect the sheets, which previously smelled of rain.
I rubbed my temple and groaned. A blanket of grogginess still enveloped me. I looked around the familiar room with tired eyes. But I shot up on my elbows once my blue eyes locked with Jeremiah's calm ones. I pushed myself so I was pressed flat against the headboard. He sighed and uncrossed his arms, walking closer to the bed.
He simply sat down on the end, causing his weight to shift me slightly closer to him, my toes barely touching his shins. I brought my knees to my chest.
"Go ahead." He gestured. I raised a brow, shooting him an untrustworthy glance.
"What? All I can do is rant about how you kidnapped me, from my own home, after I invited you in to eat my fucking food. You know, no problems." I sent him a 'pleasant' grin.
"What? No I meant about my 'wolfism', remember I showed you yesterday?" He inquired.
Running a hand down my face I groaned out in annoyance, "you mean that wasn't some fabricated dream that came from my shitty imagination?" He laughed at my explanation. He shook his head and began to scrutinize my face. I squished up my cheeks with my hand and gave him an incredulous look.
"Is there dried spit on my face?"
"No. I can hear your wolf."
"I think you're on crack." I deadpanned.
"That's not what I meant. Once a shifter, what we prefer to call ourselves, meet their mate, they begin to shift. Their wolf comes out." He smiled wide.
"Okay," I grip my hair, "first you eat my food, kidnap me, shift into a big-ass wolf, then tell me you're my 'true love'?" I cup my face in both hands, resting them on my knees.
This is turning out to be the worst week ever. I have been kidnapped, even after nicely sharing my food, I pouted at the thought. I have been told I'm part dog. And I have been aloud to sleep in a nice room which is confusing me. Captors are supposed to torture right? I was almost raped, and am now being told by a psychopath that I am his 'love at first sight'. Does this happen to anyone else?
"I didn't think you were that daft. I shifted this afternoon. Remember?" I thought back to his big brown wolf, still slightly disbelieving.
"Then what, my mate is here, amongst all these other crazy, looney bin, people?" I was beginning to be relentless and frantic, trying to prove this was all some bullshit some druggie is trying to pull. But I had seen the proof, I had seen the bone structure change entirely, and I watched Jeremiah turn into another form.
"I've let all the male non-male shifters to meet in the big room you saw yesterday."
"How'd you do that?" I leaned over and picked up his arm, playfully searching him for a phone he could've used.
"Well, I'm the Beta, or second in command for simpler terms. The other shifters can feel if I want them somewhere or if I want them to do something. It's how shifters communicate in wolf-form. But we still have some of that ability in our human form as well." He explained.
"Oh...I still don't believe you."
"I've also requested the Alpha to come." He finished.
"Geeze, it's like a wolf pack. Lemme guess, that's what you guys call it." He just stared at me. My face paled. I just swiped my hand down my face and thudded down onto the mattress. Great I'm stuck with a shifter pack.
