"All tuckered out?" I asked, laying on the grass next to him.
"Hardly!" He huffed, turning he head to look at me.
"Uh-huh, suuure." I said, and when he frowned at me in protest with a pout I winked to let him know I was kidding.
He continued to pout.
"Stop it! You're making me feel bad..."
His pout cracked, and broke into a smile. "Dang it Felicity. You're impossible not to smile around!" He laughed.
I smirked outwardly, but on the inside I was grinning like a madman. I was sure to cherish this compliment for the longest time, running through it over and over again. "Well I guess it goes both ways, you always make me laugh."
"Well we are quite a pair then, eh?" He pulled his arms up and rested his head on his hands which he nestled in the grass like a cradel. He closed his eyes and pointed his head towards the infinite blue. I followed suit, but kept my eyes open in hopes of seeing a wispy cottoncandy cloud be stroked across the blue canvas.
We laid there in silence for awhile: taking in the fresh air and the enthusiastic screams of children running around on the playground across the park. There wasn't anyone else on our side, for which I was grateful. I was so happy just laying there with him, I couldn't explain it if I wanted to. Or even if I wrote a whole novel it wouldn't be enough.
I lifted my hand up to block the sun as it inched its way over to the very top of my vision line. Almost as soon as I did it I saw his hand reach over and move it to cover over his face.
"Um, do you want to ask?" I pulled my hand back over to cover my face. "You have two hands too you know!"
I glanced over from the corner of my squinted eyes and saw he was on the verge of laughing.
"May I... have your hand?" I could hear the restrain in his voice he was using to not crack up. I didn't get it until the silence streched out, and I snorted.
It was quiet again. Just the rustle of the breeze through the tall green blades. Then the wind picked up and I shivered. I sat up and pulled my knees up to my chest and rested my chin on my knees, looking at the numerous daisys occupying the plotted field. I heard him sit up beside me and scoot closer for warmth.
Its crazy how our weather can change just like that. From sunny to rainy, from dense fog to a spring day. Somtimes I wished the weather would just make up its' mind.
We could see the gray mass of fog rolling in over the trees in the distance, and it was only 4:30.
He had his legs up like mine, and arms crossed over his knees. He was closer than I thought though because when I snuck a glance I could see how his arm would brush up against mine at any moment. I felt his shoulder make contact with mine, and it stuck there like glue.
"Is it always like this here?" He asked, gazing into the approaching fog.
"No, somtimes its always just gray or rainy. This is one of the rare days where it was nice."
He awknowledged with a nod and said "Yeah, its pretty gray all the time where I live, in Ireland...."
"That's unfortunate. You came all the way to California, just to have the same weather? That sucks."
"Eh," He shrugged. "I guess it's okay. No place like home eh? But I'll be heading down to LA soon, so hopefully it'll be warmer." He looked at me as he finished the sentence. "Are you cold?"
I started to shake my head no, but then started to nod it as another breeze picked up behind us. "Yeah, sort of.. it's just getting colder outside."
