so this is kind of like a flashback. this fanfic will switch off from flashbacks to letters. the ones in italics are letters and the ones that are in normal writing are flashbacks. that's all lol. :-)

the record store was where michael liked to go on his days off. as weird as it sounded, he felt comfortable there. just being surrounded by music and people who shared his love for music made him incredibly happy, so that's where he went.

he didn't exactly have the day off, it was more like he woke up that morning deciding that he was not in the mood to listen to his professors' boring lectures all day. he would most likely regret his decision later on, seeing as he had exams coming up in two weeks, but he would deal with all of that later.

michael didn't really like college all that much. he wouldn't even have applied if it hadn't been for his mother pushing him into it. he wanted to make her proud but he just couldn't see himself as a lawyer. lawyers didn't have colorful hair and band tees. they didn't get eyebrow piercings or tattoos, and he was pretty darn sure that lawyers didn't love anime or video games as much as he did. but he had 3 more years left to figure out how to tell his mom that. until then, he would continue with his schooling.

michael let out a soft sigh as he rummaged through all the records, occasionally picking one up and throughly inspecting it before setting it back down again. he didn't own a record player- he didn't have enough money for that- but he still liked to imagine how each record sounded as it spun around in circles on the turn table.

"hey, michael right?"

a voice startled him out of his thoughts and he looked up to see a tall blonde haired boy around his age standing in front of him. michael weakly nodded and the boy sat down next to him, much to michael's discomfort. one of the many things he loved about the record store was that no one bothered him and he could sit in peace all by himself. he guessed it was too much to hope for this time, though.

"i'm luke, we go to the same college." he stuck out his hand for michael to shake. his blue eyes glistened and he smiled as he spoke, almost making michael want to smile back at him. he didn't though, as he was still a bit annoyed.

when the blonde realized that michael was not going to respond nor shake his hand, he lowered his arm and shifted his eyes to the record that michael held.

"oh! dressed to kill! i love that record. i have it along with, like, every other kiss record in my collection." michael nodded and bit his lip, quickly setting the plastic disk back in it's sleeve and onto the shelf again. he really wished the boy would go away already.

"i've never seen you here before. i didn't think anyone that went to nyu was even into this kind of thing." luke rambled, and michael wondered if the boy ever shut up. he just wanted to be alone, that's why he came here, but luke was currently ruining his plans.

"so, christmas is coming up. what're your plans?" luke changed the subject for what felt like the millionth time. michael decided that he either had add, or was just really, really hyper.

michael shrugged, deciding to speak up for once. "m'not sure."

luke beamed at the fact that he actually responded this time. "yea, i'm not really sure either. i think i might-"

but he was cut off by the sound of michael's phone ringing. michael grunted and fished his pockets for his tiny flip phone. he knew he was probably the last person on earth to still have a flip phone, but he was way too broke to buy a new one.

michael pulled out his phone, pressing the green 'answer' button once he saw who it was.

"hello?" he spoke. he could feel luke's eyes on him still, making him shrink back a little.

he listened to the other person on the line speak before talking again.

"yes, i'll come get him. okay. love you too. bye." michael hung up and stood from his spot on the bench, stretching.

"who was that?" luke asked, his smile just as firm as ever.

michael shrugged and shoved his phone back in the pocket of his tight black skinny jeans. "no one. i've gotta go."

luke nodded and grinned widely at the colorful-haired boy. "alrighty. see you around?" he asked, a hopeful glint in his eyes.

michael nodded, not really meaning it, before he turned on his heel and walked out the store.
