Levi's POV
It's funny when life really isn't funny. It lures you in and shakes you to your core, to a point where nothing makes any sense. Everything you know and love is turned upside down and there is nothing you can do about it. You are told that you just have to take what you're given and make the best of it.I can remember up to two occasions in which this has happened. First when Westley died, or should I say was killed and this moment right now. I was being blackmailed by someone and I had no clue who they were and what they wanted from me.
In the midst of my shock I realized I dropped my phone on the floor. None of this makes any sense. Why would someone come after me? Why would they come after Westley? None of this makes any sense. I can't even deal with this right now I have to finish getting ready for school or I am going to be tragically late.
As I turn the key in my car and rev the engine I get a text from my mom that says she will be home after school. Which I could really care less about. Dove is typically the one who gets excited to see our parents. I switch the car in drive heading to school. When I pull into the parking spot fifteen minutes later me and my sister say our goodbyes and head our separate ways. Today is her first day in high school and I offered to show her around, but she said she could manage. It seems like we have been growing apart lately. Maybe it's just my imagination though.
I meet up with Taryn, Ashley, Michael, and Greyson in our usual spot outside of the school, but something just seems off. We are all really good friends and have been that way since middle school. It's just weird being here with no Wes and with all this new information about his death. Not to mention on top of all of the that I have some random threatening me with my own secrets.
"Well look what we have here Levi has decided to grace us with his presence" Taryn mutters as I walk up to the group.
"You have been m.i.a. all summer so I'm shocked you are even acknowledging our existence", she adds.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group is just standing there glaring daggers at me.
"Look guys I'm sorry I just had a long summer dealing with Wes' death and all", I countered.
"Levi it has been a whole year you have got to let it go, he is gone and he isn't coming back so you owe it to him to move on with your life", Greyson adds.
The rest of the group nods along showing their agreement to what Greyson is saying."I guess you guys are right it's just hard, did you guys see what they said on the news this morning?", I asked realizing they probably didn't know about the new information in Wes' case.
They all solemnly shake their heads yeah and suddenly we are engulfed in an awkward silence."I can't believe Wes was killed", Michael finally speaks breaking the silence. "None of us can", Ashley added. I finally ask the question everyone has been thinking,
"So who do you think guys think could have done this"? "I don't know but we all know that Wes was not a saint so it could really be anyone", Taryn says.
"Oh please Taryn we all know Wes wasn't a saint but neither are we", Ashley pipes up. "Exactly quiet as kept we hold many of the same secrets that Wes held, so by default we should be dead to", I said.
My mind suddenly returns to that text I received this morning. I am debating with myself if should tell my friends about it or not. I really don't think I should worry them. I was so caught in the moment that I didn't even think about it, that text could have very easily been fake.
