To make imagery happen, you have to make the reader feel like they are watching a movie. Create visuals for them to better understand what something looks like.
Usually when I describe something, I find myself using similies and metaphors. Like this:
Her hair swept down her back like a waterfall.
He was a tiger, ready to pounce at his prey.
However, it doesn't always need to be similies or metaphors.
I noticed his face scrunch together into an aggravated mood. His eyebrows lowered, his lips transforming into a frown.
The mysterious figure leaped in front of her car. The moment it did, she gasped and slammed on the brakes. Even after it scurried back into the woods next to the open road, Gwen attempted to stay calm. Her heart thumped from the frightening surprise, her mind racing with so many thoughts at once.
